Chapter Four
A New Home, And Friends!
About two days after the event, Hal left the hospital, finally able to stand correctly, but still felt his injured leg pinch every steps he takes. Back in his car, he thought about the dragon, thinking if he should check on it, or forget about it. He then remembered its help, and with a sigh, headed over to the market to get a fish, only to then head back to the factory. He walked into the factory and looked around, with the fish in his hands.
"C'mon, little guy. I know you're still here. I got something for you..." Hal says as he looked around. He heard a sound of cracking wood, then quickly turned around, ready to take his gun out. To his surprise, it was just the dragon glaring at him, growling at the sight of his hand on the gun. Hal took his hand away from the gun, earning then a more calm reaction from the dragon, who carefully approached, smelling the fish meat. Hal placed the fish on the floor. "Take this as a thank you for helping me." He says before backing up, allowing the young dragon to eat. The officer watched the reptile with a determination to touch it. Just as he reaches his hand to it, the dragon quickly noticed and backed away from the fish, afraid. Hal quickly took his hand away. Sighing in boredoom, he sat down on the floor, looking at the ceiling, only to soon feel a faint breathing on his hand. By taking a look, he saw the dragon poking its nose on his hand, curiously nibbling on it.
"Now you decide to get closer? You're weird, but in a good way." He says, slowly moving his hand towards the dragon's head, only to pat it for a second. The dragon closed its eyes in relief to know that Hal was an ally. "I don't know what you are but I owe you one." He says, standing up. He was about to leave when he suddenly stopped to then turn to the dragon. "You know what? I've seen how you fought that criminal the other day. That's some hell of a claw paw you have there. He haven't seen this one coming up to him. What'd you say? Mind helping your fellow officers to fight crime?" He asked to the dragon. The creature looked confused. "In other words, we fight bad guys that do ILLEGAL shenanigans. You're in or not?" Hal asked, with an impatient look on his face. The dragon looked down for a second, but looked back at him with a wagging tail, letting him know it was interested.
"Great! Hopefully goes as I expect." He says, walking over to his car. The dragon curiously sniffed the car, only to have Hal open the door. "C'mon, get in. I don't have all day." He says. The young dragon jumped in the car as Hal closed the door, driving back home. "Before we start your training, you'll need to be ready. I mean... you're such a skinny-boney fella. I don't think you'd go far with that state of your's." He says, earning a faint growl from the dragon. At their arrival, Hal opened the door and introduced the dragon to his family. "Honey, Junior! Meet a new friend. It saved me earlier this week from a criminal, and I see potential in this little guy to be a future police helper." Hal says, turning to the dragon. "These two are my wife and kid. Be nice to them... or else..." He says, giving the dragon a angry glare before going back to his kind persona. The dragon nodded quickly. "Excellent! Wait here, I'll get you something to nibble on." He then says as he heads over to the kitchen. The young dragon curiously looked around, sniffing furnitures and items it could see and find.
"Getting familiar with the surroundings?" Hal asked. The dragon stopped and sat down, looking at Hal. "Food's cooking. Be lucky I don't give you the same food as the prisonners back at prison." He says, shrugging. He looked back at the dragon. "Jeez, you're so dirty I can barely see your colors. You need a bath, my friend... bah, after dinner." He says, heading back in the kitchen. Once the dragon ate, Hal prepared the bath, and looked disgusted by the water. The dragon knew what was going to come, and ran around, forcing Hal to run after it. Once caught, Hal forced it to take a bath. "Get. In. The. Stupid. Water!" He growled. After some minutes of struggle that took like an eternity, the dragon finally got in the water, much to Hal's relief. The reptile sniffed the water, and started to clean itself, sending water flying, which forced Hal to use a towel to hide his computer head. "Careful with the water! Jeez, you're gonna make me short-circuit..." He says, earning the dragon's understanding, who stopped being agitated.
Hal sighed and facepalmed. "I can't believe I'm really doing this..." He says with an embarrassing expression. About an hour of washing of the dust and dried mud, the dragon was as clean as a perfect apple. "Now that's more like it." He says, heading back to the living room. The dragon followed him, then lied down on the floor, while Hal just made himself some coffee. He looked over to the dragon. "It's like you're related to space and the moon. I normally don't say this but I like the starry pattern you have under your wings. What even are you? Some sort of space dragon?" He asked, sitting in front of the dragon. "You're one heck of a colorful boy..." He says, glaring closer to the dragon. "Wait- no... you're a girl?" He says, earning a nod from the dragon. "Yikes... erm... let's just... give you a name... Spacey? Moon? Star? No? Nothing? How about... Luna? It gives a mystery side." He says. The dragon's eyes widened and she smiled. "Luna, it is! Excellent!" He replied, smiling at Luna's happiness. He then stood up and walked away in another room, coming back with a necklace. "This belonged to my father, but I give it to you. If anything happens to it, you're in trouble." He says, putting the necklace around Luna's neck, who started sniffing it.
"Take this as a friendship gift, and a sort of welcome." He says, standing up once again and walking away to get his coffee. "Once I get to move without any pain, we'll start your training. Being stuck at home for a week is boring, but now that I have you, it'll be something to do for me." He says, sitting at the table, slowly somehow drinking his coffee.
