The Morning

Dani woke up with a pounding headache. She had only received the bad news yesterday, and the fact that her boyfriend is going to die in one week didn't exactly make it too easy for her to sleep. 

She tossed and turned all night, wondering what to do. If she was being honest, she had no idea. There was only one thing she did know: that she was going to make sure he made the best of it.

"Karl, wake up." Dani shook him awake. She didn't even want to get out of bed this morning. She could hardly look at her boyfriend without crying, but yet her face still wore a smile. It always did.

Karl groaned and slapped his hands to his eyes, rubbing them and slowly letting his eyelids flutter open. "Dani," He smiled, noticing who had woken him up. "What time is it?"

She checked her watch, "9:19 A.M." She said, grabbing his hand and pulling him out of bed.

"Why are we up so early?" He groaned.

"Oh come on, we all know you're a morning person." Dani laughed. "We're up early because I made some plans for us. Now go take a shower." She smiled.

"Yes ma'am." Karl said in a joking voice before giving her a peck on the cheek and running towards the bathroom. Dani sighed, looking around the room. The sound of the shower water in the other room pulled her out of her thoughts.

She walked towards his closet, snatching one of his maroon hoodies and throwing it on over her t-shirt. It was supposed to be cold, after all. 

She went back to her room and brushed through the messy tats and tangles in her hair. Usually Dani didn't care what her hair looked like, but today she did. She did her hair in 2 French braided pigtails. She had to redo the one on the right at least three times, but she finally got it to a point she was happy with.

She was starving. She was now full of energy and excited for the day. She ran down the stairs, almost stumbling off the last two steps.

"Oh hey, I didn't even hear the shower turn off or you head into your room and down here." She said as she was met with Karl sitting at the counter eating a bowl of cereal. His hair was drench with water. Dani got distracted watching the water droplets drip down his back.

She grabbed a bowl and joined him at the counter, pouring her own bowl of cereal. "I'm just sneaky like that." He laughed. 

"Mhm, don't act like you didn't wake Avery up last night while you were trying to be quiet." Dani called him out. "Shit, I forgot a spoon."

"Ha, loser." Karl joked, causing Dani to throw a roll of paper towels at his back. "Ouch." He said, causing Dani to reply with, "Ha, loser." Mimicking him perfectly. 

"9:30 in the morning and you two are already acting like children." Avery said, walking into the kitchen. 

"About time you got your ass up." Dani joked.

"Oh shut up, you're just jealous I got fucking stoned last night and you didn't." Avery said, snatching the box of cereal off the counter.

"You're just mad I got dick three nights ago and you didn't." Dani said smiling and causing Karl's face to turn completely red. "Dani, don't say that!" He laughed so hard it came out as more of a honk than anything else.

"Touché." Avery answered calmly, taking her new bowl of cereal and joining the two lovebirds. 

Dani finished her cereal and got up. She walked over and washed the bowl before walking back over and towering Avery. In reality, Avery was about two inches taller than Dani, so Dani took every chance Avery was sitting down to stand next to her so she could feel tall for a few minutes.

"So, are you coming with me and Karl today?" Dani asked.

"Yeah, but I'm going to have to leave around 5." She said. 

"How come?" Dani asked.

"I have a date." She smiled. Karl and Avery finished their cereal at the same time, which was weird seeing as Karl started eating before both of them and was typically a fast eater. Maybe he just didn't have much of an appetite today.

"Ouu, a date." Karl smiled as Avery stacking his bowl on hers and took them to the sink. "Is it with a girl or a guy?" He asked.

"A girl. I'm trying to find out if I'm actually Bi or not." Avery answered, walking over and standing next to Dani, now obviously looking taller than her.

"Well, I hope you figure it out." Dani smiled. "You're ours until 5 though."

"Great." Avery laughed. 

"Oh shut up, we're so fun." Dani joked as she grabbed her car keys.

"Of course you guys are. I can't wait to see you guys kiss each other all. day. long." Avery said sarcastically and sighed.

"Shush, we do not." Karl butted in as he finally stood up. He walked over and gave Dani a kiss right on the lips.

"I hate you guys." Avery joked.
