Skyworld, the year 19XX...
"Lady Palutena, please make haste. We depart for the Mobian Council room in five minutes," stated the calm, collected voice of the Goddess Nayru.
"Y-yes, of course, Lady Nayru," replied the Goddess in question. Lady Palutena was a relatively new member of the Council of Divine Beings, the only protection against inter-dimensional threats. She was known as the Goddess of Light, but didn't have a very good reputation after being held captive by the Underworld Army. Her savior wasn't exactly as impressive as Hyrule's, either...
"L-lady Palutena?" Speak of the devil, young Pit, the hero of Skyworld, peeked at his Goddess from behind a pillar. "Where are you going?"
Palutena grimaced. She had hoped to sneak away without the young angel seeing her. She sighed. "Hello Pit. Why are you awake? I remember telling you it was time for sleep."
"Well, yeah. But as your official guardian, I NEED to know where you're going and where you are at all times!" Pit said, straightening up and puffing out his chest comically.
Palutena smiled. "Don't worry Pit; I'll only be gone for a little while."
"B-but, then...I'm going with you!"
"Pit-"
"Hey Paulie, what's the hold up?" The angel and the Goddess turned to look at the new arrival, who was none other than the Hyrulian Goddess of Power.
"Miss Din!" yelled Pit, running over and jumping into said Goddess's arms.
"Hey there, kiddo! Man, you've gotten older since when I last visited," said Din, smirking and hoisting Pit effortlessly onto her shoulders. "Are you being difficult for Paulie?"
"No, Miss Din. I think I should go to wherever Lady Palutena is going now!"
Din raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Why's that, kiddo?"
"It's 'cause...well, I'm supposed to protect her and everything!" Pit scowled and crossed his arms.
"Ahh, okay. Ya don't need at worry, Angel Face. Me and Hylia'll protect her just fine for you. Besides, where we're going is a bad place for little angels like you. It has scary metal beasts that eat flightless Angels for breakfasts!"
Pit yelped and jumped off of Din's shoulder, hiding behind a pillar. "I don't wanna be eaten!"
"Din..." muttered Palutena, sending a glare at the Goddess of Power.
"But when you're older, I promise I'll take ya there. Then we can punch those stupid metal beasts right in the face!" Din said with a cheer. She was quickly joined by Pit. "But I'll only do it if you go to bed RIGHT now. So, off ya go!"
"You got it, Miss Din!" and with a final cheer, Pit ran off for his room.
Palutena sighed with relief."Thank you, Din. I was starting to lose hope there, for a second."
"What can I say, I'm good with kids. Unlike Nay, me and 'Rore love the little tykes ta death," Din said with a shrug. "Maybe you should put a video bowl in this place. It'd keep him busy, that's for sure."
"Yeah, I'll think about it after the meeting. By the way, where's Hyls? She was supposed to meet me at the main corridor a few minutes ago..." Palutena looked around for her best friend, Lady Hylia.
Din bit her lip. "Yeah, uh...about that...shoot, I'll...just ask Farore, alright?" Din muttered, walking away to the portal to Mobius. Palutena looked at her quizzically, but shook her head and proceeded through the portal.
"I wonder what the matter is..."

Hyrule, the year 200X...
Princess Zelda walked through Hyrule Field, searching for the gateway she saw in her latest dream.
The dream had started out with her and a woman in pink standing side by side in some sort of...odd coliseum. After that, she was tumbling from the clouds with a pink...creature, one that she had never seen before. Then, her and the woman in pink travelling on a flying ship. Finally, she and many people looking at something in sheer horror. But something she saw many times during this dream was what appeared to be a door of sorts.
To say the dream disturbed her would be an understatement. The bearers of the Triforce of Wisdom (such as herself) only had prophetic dreams such as that when Hyrule was in grave danger. But...she was certain the land in her dream was NOT Hyrule.
And so she marched onwards. Killing Bulblins and other monsters with her blade when she could while making steady progress.
Finally, after the sun had set and the shroud of twilight was upon her, she saw it.
She couldn't understand how nobody had noticed it before. A little ways away from the Bridge of Eldin sat an enormous stone arch, surrounded by dull, brown, aging pillars. Under the arch was a sturdy, stone wall, with a large, wooden door right in the middle.
Zelda approached it wearily. Just when she was about five feet away from the door, her sensitive Hylian ears picked up a sound.
Harp music. And it was slowly getting louder.
Raising her sword in a defensive position, Zelda slowly walked towards the sound of the harp.
"You mustn't fear me, M'lady," said a strong, vaguely feminine voice from behind the princess.
Zelda jumped and turned around to face the speaker, only to find nothing but air behind her. "Show yourself!" she commanded.
"Such a command might work on a commoner from Castletown, but not on myself," said the voice again, this time from right next to Zelda.
Zelda glanced in the direction the voice had come from. As she expected, nothing was there. "Well, may you answer me this? Where are you?"
"If I were to say, it would merely confuse M'lady."
"Try me," Zelda said defiantly. "I have seen my kingdom shrouded in Twilight and have been held captive by a madman."
"That is nothing, compared to what I have seen. Her Grace has gone through much worse than that."
Zelda's eyes widened. This mysterious voice had a master? "Who is 'Her Grace'?" she asked.
"...T'is not the time for you to know, M'lady. Answers will come eventually. You may ask five questions," replied the voice, "but I cannot reveal any events of the future. You have already used one question."
Zelda decided to ask the most obvious first. "Who are you?"
"...I have not been addressed in centuries, M'lady. Even so, every time I have been called a different name. But...the name Her Grace had given me was Sheik. You may call me that."
"Okay...once again, where are you?" Zelda looked around once more for this mysterious 'Sheik'.
"T'was eons ago when I was able to hold a physical form without the assistance of Her Grace. My spirit has remained here on Her Grace's whim, simply told to guard the door until Wisdom arrives. Now that you have arrived, I shall reside in your mind until I am able to hold a mortal form. After that time, I shall be your personal guard. I assume that is fine with you?"
Zelda had to ponder this for a moment. From what she could currently tell, Sheik was a resilient, loyal and knowledgeable spirit. Even though she had just met her, Zelda already trusted Sheik. "Yes. It is," said Zelda, finally breaking the silence. "For my fourth question, I ask you this: what is behind the door?"
"...M'lady, I am afraid I cannot say. T'is not time for you to know."
"Well, when will it open? That's my final question."
Sheik did not reply right away. "...Soon. That is all I can say for now. Soon."
Zelda frowned. That wasn't the answer she wanted. "Wait a moment-"
"M'lady, I apologize, but I must cut our conversation short. I will contact you when the door opens. Farewell..." Sheik's voice and presence seemed to fade away after that.
"Wait!"
"Zelda? What are you doing here?" said a familiar voice behind Zelda. She turned around to find the famed Hero of Twilight standing there, his horse grazing nearby.
"Oh...hello, Hero. What brings you here?" Zelda said, forcing a smile.
Link frowned. "This is where I come to think. Ever since..." Link trailed off, looking into the distance. He cleared his throat after a moment. "Excuse me. Seem to have lost my train of thought. But anyways, why are you here? And since when was that door there?"
Now it was Zelda's turn to remain silent. "...If I told you, you...you wouldn't believe me."
Link smiled, which, in Zelda's eyes, seemed to light up the twilight around them. "Try me," Link said, sitting down on the grass.
Reluctantly, Zelda sat down beside him, knowing her current attire would most likely be ruined before she arrived to the palace. "Well...have you ever heard the stories of the Princess of Destiny? How she had prophetic dreams?" Zelda paused and waited for Link to reply. He nodded, so she continued. "That seems to be a trait for all bearers of the Triforce of Wisdom. I...I had a dream, and...this door was one of the most prominent things in it."
Link stared at her for a minute. "So...do you know what's behind it?"
Zelda shook her head. "That's not the only thing, though. There was...a woman, of sorts. She claimed that she was guarding the door until it was to be opened."
"So when will it open?"
Zelda smiled. "Soon. That's all she would say."
Link sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. "Well...that's better than saying nothing at all. At least we know that."
"Yes, well, it was lovely having this chat with you, but I must be returning to the palace now," said Zelda, standing up and brushing some dirt off her dress. She had started walking away when she felt Link grab her hand.
"Wait. You walked all the way here?"
Zelda turned around and nodded.
"Then...one second," said Link, turning around and picking a sprig of grass. Zelda watched as he played a short melody on the grass, his horse galloping towards him once he finished. He turned to face Zelda again."Please, allow me to take you home on Epona."
Zelda smiled. "If it would not bother you too much. Thank you, Hero."
Link got onto Epona's saddle and helped Zelda up. Before telling Epona to go, he face the Princess again and flashed that handsome smile again.
"You can call me Link, you know."

Somewhere in space, the year 2007...
For one of the first times in her life, Samus Aran was bored.
If she wasn't so pessimistic about her life, she would have laughed at that. Samus Aran, famed intergalactic bounty hunter AND the person who almost made Metroids extinct, was about to be killed by BOREDOM.
It was a load of bull. Her bosses hadn't given her a new target in over a month, now. She smirked, thinking about how, almost a year ago, they were sending almost every criminal her way, and now they were treating her like a total newbie. Made her sick.
"It'd be better if I had something to actually DO in this hellhole," Samus said aloud to herself. "It's not like I have a TV installed in my ship or anything."
Samus paused and made a mental note to install a TV in her ship at some point.
Samus leaned back in her seat, letting out a long sigh. Not once had she ever considered calling friends. She scoffed. 'Like I actually have any friends to call,' she thought.
Samus wasn't a 'friend' person. She preferred to stay to herself, try to make everyone fear/respect her. Friends...now, that was out of her comfort zone.
Sighing, Samus looked at her current coordinates. "Damn it. Just like I thought," she said to herself, aggravation in her tone. "Smack dab in the middle of nowhere. Wonderful." She would have kicked her seat, if she hadn't been interrupted by a chime coming from her helmet.
Confused, Samus reached over and picked up her power suit's helmet, checking to see if she had received any more missions.
What she found, though, was far from it.
"The Smash Brothers Tournament: Where the greatest fighters EVER come face to face in an all out brawl..." Samus scanned the rest of the text.
'Blah, blah, blah challenge...blah, blah, blah heroes and villains...Invited?' She thought. Sure enough, at the bottom of the text, it stated that Samus had been accepted as a fighter in this tournament.
"Well...I guess I won't be bored now..."

Unknown area, the year 2007...
Sonic the Hedgehog woke up disoriented.
He guessed that was expected, considering that Amy had hit him pretty hard with that hammer of hers-
He jumped to his feet. "Tails! Amy! Knux! Everyone!" he yelled. Frantically, he searched around for the...portal looking thing that Amy had aimed for. Unfortunately, the Hero of Mobius's search was in vain. It seemed the portal had closed while he was unconscious.
Realizing this, Sonic sunk to his knees. "No...no no no no no..." Sonic muttered, putting his head in his hands. It couldn't end like this. Maybe they got out before...before...
The thought of what had happened to his home and all of his friends finally got to him. Tears started to fall down his face. It was all because of that stupid ship. It was that ship and...the...
Sonic could vaguely remember a strange man with red hair and a black cape laughing. Laughing while he did what he did to his home. Laughing while ordering those robots to...
He shook his head. He couldn't think about that right now. What he had to do was find that guy and make him reverse what he did. Sonic wiped away his tears and rose to his feet, looking determined.
He was about to dash off when he noticed it. A giant arena, floating in midair. He just shrugged at the sight. He had seen weirder. Heck, he and Shadow blew a hole in the moon back home-
He shook his head again. He wasn't going to think about home anymore. What he had to do now was find that ship, and quickly.
But, then again, quickly is never a problem if you're the Fastest Thing Alive.
"I promise, guys...no matter what, I WILL save you, and Mobius!"
