the realms are going haywire because an elder god comes back from the dead. so there are so many heroes coming together trying to combine their power to channel their rage to combat this retro threat
Lord Raiden: (narrating) the realms are in constant flux. they change and shift like an endless dream. Shinnok....or Kronika....or maybe Shao Kahn or Shang Tsung's defeat should've marked our victory against the threatened merge of Earthrealm and Outworld....or any other realm at that point. instead it heralded a new struggle for independence.

Raiden: (narrating) and Earthrealm at it's darkest hour was here. and it is where we made our final stand against my father Shinnok and his army, born in the fire pits of a the Netherrealm. but what seemed like victory was only the beginning.
then Raiden had Shinnok mid-air in battle

Raiden: it's all over Shinnok.
Shinnok: don't be so sure son.
Raiden: y-you done lost the right to call me son 20 millenias ago!
then Raiden's punch sent Shinnok into an abandoned war-torn road, causing a whole crater into the road when he crashed. then Raiden's brother (acordding to the MK movie sequel which was now in my canon) Shao Kahn comes in

Shao Kahn: took you long enough bro.
Raiden: Shao Kahn! you knew about Shinnok threatening the safety of Earthrealm for his own personal gain. you knew Quan Chi allied himself with Shinnok before.
Shao Kahn: i was TRYING to ensure Earthrealm's survival in the event that you and the others failed.
then they see Shinnok struggling out of the hole he got launched into and an inter-realm portal opens up
Shao Kahn: uh....that can't be good.
Shinnok: this isn't over, thunder god.
Raiden: yea-no. (he then forms a lightning ball and launches it at Shinnok)
then the lightning that was blasted by Raiden had Shinnok getting in the portal, but it kinda gets destabilised when he gets sucked into it and pretty much exploded leaving Shinnok nowhere to be found. possibly inside the portal
Shao Kahn: i'm surprised you didn't kill us like you did in the end of Deadly Alliance.
Raiden: yeah. now how's about we get some victory meal? but maybe it'll be a little better than some of that Chipotle food last week.
they headed down to somewhere to get there victory meal
Shao Kahn: you think someone'll clean this place up?
meanwhile, Shinnok was still inside the portal with no way in or no way out
Shinnok: o....kay. h-how the hell do i get outta here? (then he sees a fiery light) what the fuck is th-
then he saw a flaming fox with nine tails in his vision in the portal
