I could feel the granules under my bare feet. They were burning, the suns rays had been glaring down on them for hours now and my feet were feeling the repercussions of that. I walked along until I stood on the darker sand, cooler due to the water that had been washing up against it.
I looked up from my feet and out at the colossal body of water. It spread out a far as the eye could see, just a big blue mass that connected with another blue mass at the horizon. It had been so long since I had been to the beach, years in fact. The sea air was refreshing, it filling up my senses and making me want to constantly take in deep breaths. I smiled as I turned and looked to the other beach goers. Some were relaxing under big umbrellas so only the bottom of their legs were being beaten down on the sun. You could see little kids sitting down in the sand building sandcastles with their own personal moats and such. I smiled and walked over to my own family as they set up their own little personal space under the shade of the trees hanging off the cliffs above the beach line.
I jogged over, hoping that I could burn the bottom of my feet minimally if I moved quicker across the hotter sand. I sit on one of the blankets that had been laid out by my mother. It wasn’t often we came to the beach, my mum didn’t really enjoy the beach...She said the sand always got in places it didn’t belong and sometimes I agreed but today was perfect. It was 35 degrees celsius and the beach was packed like we had predicted.
I turned to look at mum to see she had already sat down and opened her book and started reading, ignoring us and going into the fictional world she loved so much. I smiled and opened the esky, grabbing out one of the little juices we had brought and drinking it down.
Not often did we come to the beach but when we did it was always worth it.
