"Esme!"
"What is it now, mom?" I yelled down the stairs.
"Are you almost ready, the movers will be here in five minutes. So hurry up!"
"Alright, I'm just getting my backpack," I replied, a little quieter this time. I sighed looking around my room feeling a sense of emptiness that matched the state of my room. Nothing was left since the few boxes of stuff I was keeping were already downstairs.
A loud honk of the moving truck startled me, I took one last look around my room to make sure it was empty and savor all of the wonderful memories I had made there. Slowly I closed the door behind me and started down the stairs.
"I wonder what It'll be like in Paris," I thought out loud.
"It's going to be so much fun! And daddy is already there! My little sister Kit exclaimed running out the door to where they were already packing up the moving truck.
I smiled, as hard as was going to be to leave Germany I was excited for my little sister. Ever since we found out that our dad was going to be stationed in Paris Kit wouldn't stop talking about some silly superheroes Ladybug and Chat Noir. I've never heard of them before but who knows they could be real, I doubt it though.
Before I reached the door I gave one last look around our house, it was small but cozy. I took a deep breath in trying not to cry as I thought about all my friends that I would be leaving. We've only been here for about two years, but that fact didn't make it any less painful. I stopped in the doorway and placed my hand on the knob, "Goodbye house," I whispered and then giggled to myself, I was being dramatic.
"Come along duckling!" My mom said from the car. I guess the movers worked fast the truck was already packed up. Well, I did take my time moping about around and we had sold or given away most of our belongings. I smiled and nodded, closed the door behind me without looking back, and hopped into the car.
I leaned my head against the window and put my earbuds in. Before I could play any music my mom informed us that we had about a 7-hour drive to where we would be staying tonight before we get to Paris tomorrow. Hopefully, I can get some sleep while in the car, I was up all last night packing, since I had procrastinated packing 'till the last minute.
What do I want to listen to right now, I scrolled through my different playlists before deciding on one with Mother Mother, GRLwood, Ricky Montgomery, and other artists/songs like that. I pressed shuffle and the first song that came on was 'Your New Boyfriend' by Wilbur soot. I mouthed the words along with it and practiced its chords with my finger pretending I was playing my guitar, which hopefully safe and packed away in the truck.
Soon the songs all blended together as I watched the scenery change as we drove along the road heading to our new house in Paris. I felt my eyelids start to droop and found it hard to stay awake. I didn't try to resist sleep and rifted into dreams about superheroes and playing my guitar.
"Esme, wake up dear. We are at the hotel." I blinked my eyes open and looked at my who was already on the other side of the car waking up my sister. The sun had already set and the clouds covered the stars and moon. I rubbed some sleep out of my eyes and stepped out of the car. I stretched and yawned, and got my phone and backpack from my seat in the car.
"My hair must look a mess," I mumbled, my sister, heard me and reassured me that it didn't. Either way, I pulled my shoulder-length hair into the best ponytail I could make with short hair. we headed into the hotel, it didn't take long for our mom to check us in and soon I was falling asleep in my clothes on top of the bed I was sharing with my sister.
The smell of coffee filled my nose, and I quickly hopped out of bed and followed the scent to where mom was brewing another cup for me since she already had one for herself. The warm liquid slid down my throat and filled me with warmth. My sister Kit was still asleep, so decided to not take a shower this morning and instead wait to take one tonight. I put a fresh shirt on and combed my hair, it was still early so I have time to try and braid my hair. Once I was done I admired my work in front of the bathroom mirror, it didn't look too bad but wasn't my best. I debated redoing it, but by this time my sister was awake and dressed, which time to grab breakfast and leave.
This time I couldn't sleep at all during the car ride. It might have been the excitement or something else but the two-hour car ride went by quicker than I had expected. Soon we were all on the edge of our seats keeping our eyes peeled for the first sight of our new house. As we turned onto the road that led into the city the Effiel tower came into view. It was amazing to see it in person and the architecture of the buildings was breathtaking and like something out of a book.
It didn't take much longer for us to arrive at our new house, which was an apartment located next to a park.
The car came to a stop and we all got out of the car and just stood in front of our new home. All of a sudden the front door burst open and out of came my dad and engulfed the three of us in a big hug. I felt myself relax, Paris is beautiful, maybe things won't be as horrible I thought.
