I stood at my locker getting my things together as Paola stood next to me squealing so much that attention was being drawn to both of us.
"You guys have been messing around for this long and he's finally taking you on a proper date!" she claps her hands repeatedly shaking her head to remove the hair from her side bangs out of her eyes. Leaning against the locker next to mine staring dreamily at the sky
"We have so many things to do and it's only Wednesday. You need new shoes, a new dress, are you keeping the butterfly locs or should we make an appointment for a hairstylist?" Paola starts listing off things already beginning to stress herself out over a date that's not even hers.
"I don't get why you're so stressed out, it's my date," I emphasize
"No. It's our date. That man has to impress both of us. It's been this many months and yall have only hung out in daycares and in your houses, he finally gets to take you out and claim you! Do you know how serious this is?" she hits my arm, "What are you gonna tell your parents."
"I'm just going to tell them the truth, its a date to a restaurant it's not like he's asking for my hand in marriage."
"Karma, your parents don't necessarily believe in dating. You know. Its girl meets boy, boy likes girl, boy and girl get engaged, and then they get married." She says with a smirk, "Notice how I never said 'boy asks girl on a date'".
I go to speak until I notice a figure wearing all black and sunglasses. It didn't take long to figure out it was Justine sashaying down the hallway towards us.
Ever since she hopped out of her wheelchair and exposed herself, she's been wearing all black with shades to hide who she is and to avoid the eyes staring at her.
When she comes up next to us she stands next to Paola in front of me and licks her lips, removing her sunglasses and covering the side of her face to shield herself from other people, "So um what did I miss?" she asks and Paola and I start to snicker at her behavior
"You mean what did you lose?" Paola asks, "Your mind. That's what."
Justine waves her hand, "I'm trying not to draw attention to myself."
"You literally wore sunglasses to come inside and it's damn near winter. There is no sun." I say, "But yes you did miss something, I'm going out with my boyfriend on Friday night." I grin toothily and Justine squeals quietly grabbing my forearm
"A real date? A proper date?" Justine gasps, "Y'all we have so much to do! We gotta go shopping either today or tomorrow an--" Justine cuts herself off as she stares at something behind me and rolls her lips into her mouth looking down slightly
I raise an eyebrow and turn my head to look behind me and I kind of wish I didn't because I see Cyrus walking towards us the bubbly brunette cheerleader that he was talking to the other night practically hanging off his arm as they walk towards us.
