At night, absolutely everything is silent in his house. For him, it made this moment truly peaceful. The short boy was looking out the window, where the rain wouldn't stop falling dramatically. The stars were shining with the moon by their side. If he had a paper and a pen, he could have written a poem about it, he felt creative. But the right words wouldn't come out. Perhaps he had his phone but he wasn't really an expert in technology.
Everyone in the house was asleep, except Nightmare. Like always he couldn't sleep all by himself and his insomnia didn't help him at all. For once though, he felt easygoing. He had no bad thoughts, he didn't feel alone or sad. It was just the moon and him. The silence broke because the soft rain became thunder, which terrified him."You are not sleeping?"
His roommate asked him with a freshly made coffee in his left hand."Oh hi Ror, nope I couldn't fall asleep so hm I'm looking outside. It looks really nice out there."
"I imagine it is, do you need some company?" He asked as he approached.
"Hm...please?" He replied with a tiny smile, slightly shivering. Error giggled before sitting next to him by the window. They stayed quiet while they looked at the stars. When the thunder groaned, Nightmare looked away.
"I'm sorry that I can't take you in my arms to comfort you." He avoided his sight, he felt embarrassed.
"No worries bud, you don't have to do it." His voice felt warm, he always had the power to comfort anyone by his side. They spent a long time watching outside before eventually Error finished his coffee and Nightmare finally succeeded to fall asleep for a full hour, which was already a progress.
Though in an another place, everything was quiet which was anything but good. Dream was still on his desk, surrounded by letters from the village. People had so many request that he couldn't fulfill. He felt tense, and the thunder wasn't making this situation any better. He almost cried, but someone opened the door and sneaked inside. Dyed blue hair were the only thing he could see in the dark but that was enough for him to know who walked in. A little troublemaker who would not make his night any better.
"What are you doing here?" He murmured with a tired voice.
The boy yawned before replying. "I can't sleep." He answered before sitting on Dream's bed next to his desk.
"Another bad dream?"
"One bad Dream is already enough, imagine if there was multiple you." He joked before yawning a second time. Dream rolled his eyes. He looked back at his important paper. That one demand caught his eyes.
Hello good sir, Dream Kai.
My sweet young sister turned two yesterday but since she is born she's been cursed with an horrible disease. I have two jobs to pay her surgeries and her big brother stopped school to work full time to help us as well but even though we are working badly for her health we barely have enough to help her.
My lord, do you have any advice? Could you perhaps give this letter to someone in the castle who could potentially find me a job that could pay enough for my family? Beside I don't want my brother to work, he needs to go learn like the other kid.
It's absolutely fine if you can't help us, I understand that you must have so much work. Thank you so much for at least reading it. We appreciate it, we always believed in you since you became the king. If you can't help us, please at least continue your amazing work. We are proud to have such good-heart royalty.
With love and sincerity, Rosa.
People believed in him, he knew it. Almost all those letters where request written with such politeness and respect for him. They loved him, the king who could save them all. But the problem was that when he was still younger, he had the time and ability to help the other villagers of his town because it was something he had the capacity to do. Now what was required to him was impossible, and he had so many demands. Oh how he would love to meet Rosa and her siblings to help them. She was surely a young woman with only her sister and brother to be called her family, working two jobs to save them.
"Shit." He murmured so only he could hear. "Please God, give me a sign, will I be able to save my people? They are so dear to me, but I keep failing them, am I still the generous person I once was? Did I grow mean?" The thunder hit close to the castle. He asked God so many questions that he couldn't know what he answered to. Maybe that was his punishment for being too demanding.
"Dream, can I ask you somethin'?" Blue played with his own hair has he waited for an answer. Dream sighed.
"Ask away."
"Do you think that..People can impact your life? Like really badly, like..like they could make you upset for days without realizing? Just cause they hm..they're important to you but you can't love them properly back? " He kept stuttering. He'd only do that when he was in private with Dream. Blue is an anxious person who can't handle his own stress, in public he laughs and make many jokes to make the others embarrassed so he can escape his emotions but then when he was all alone every thing he felt in a day hit him badly.
"Who is this about? Another lover of yours?" He was also known for flirting with everyone he could. He'd say it was just a friendly flirt when in fact he deeply loved the person, which made him hurt many times. Only Dream knew that, they knew each others for many years and he won his trust only some months ago but that didn't make Blue any less talkative about his issues. Dream was known for his way of listening carefully to people without any judgement, he was someone you'd easily trust and knew he would never mention what you spoke about to others. Blue shaked his head.
"Nope, it's hm.. whatever you don't need to know about who it is. Come on reply to me!"
Dream couldn't help but to laugh.
"Dreeeeeam!"
"Alright alright, yes I do think that. It's actually something common, it can be about anyone and at any moment. But that's something you could work on with...-"
"Communication." Blue finished his sentence.
"Communication indeed."
"But.. like, what if you can't communicate with that person?"
"Then that's something you need to work on, it's not because the person who makes you feel like that isn't there to work on this subject that it means you can't ask for help and learn that it's okay to...not be able to help or love them. I think that it's actually okay to not be able to do something that seems important or necessary. I guess sometimes it's okay to fail and lose a person and feel upset and..-"
"Dream, you're yapping around."
"Just remember that being upset is natural and it's really easy to upset people."
"Thanks dude!" Blue left the room, walking peacefully. Dream looked out his window, the thunder stopped and it barely rained. He got up to open his window, the smell of the rain reassured him.
Maybe he couldn't help Rosa and her family, maybe he won't be able to comfort Blue sometimes and maybe he'll never stop being upset about his past relationship with him but maybe that was okay. Tonight really helped him feel at ease with himself. He slept by the window by himself.
