When everything started, well, White Sand didn't remember when everything started. All he knows is that he was born to his unknown parents and left at the orphanage in the Scorpion Den. It was a brutal place, and everyone hated him because of his scrawny size. They called him names, names he hated like "literal street rat" and "lizard thin".Everyone at the orphanage hated him, and he could say the same back, but he never got to. He always ate last, was pushed away from the watering hole when they went to drink, and even the adults cared little to not at all about him.
Actually, they didn't care about any of the dragonets there, as long as nobody died. When the prophecy dragonet came to the Scorpion Den, though, White Sand, or for the sake of time, Sand, had been inspired to try and join the Outclaws. This was a hard choice for him, but when he considered his current living situation, he decided it was for the better.
As he was making his escape from the orphanage, he smelled something smoky on the inside. This scared him. Even though the other dragonets did not care about him, he secretly cared about them.
He leaped back in through the window he left open, and realized that there was a fire spreading across the dragonet's floor. All the other dragonets were asleep, so he would have to do something about it.
He ran towards his fellow dragonets and tried to wake them up, but they just dismissed it as a revenge prank, which they thought he would pull on them. He had to admit, he was smarter than them, but not smart enough to pull off a good prank like they do.
He tried to fan out the fire, but it was just getting bigger. He needed help. He ran out the window again and ran down the street, finding their care-takers talking on the porch about who would win the war. He ran up to them and started to scream.
"Fire! There is a fire in the sleeping quarters!" He screamed, "Everyone is in danger, you need to help me!"
"We know what your doing, Sand, and its not going to work. We know you want to pull a prank on the other dragonets, so you want us to wake them up for you." Cactus said.
"Yeah, we know what your doing." His other care-taker, Viper, said.
"Wait, did that dragonet say fire?" He heard from across the street.
It was an Outclaw, he could tell because he had seen him at the oasis. He preceded to tell him about the fire, and the Outclaw reassured him they would handle everything. After this, he ran off, presumably to their HQ, and a few minutes later, 5 Outclaws came to help, including a rather large female that he thought might have been their leader.
Once they all arrived, they started sending the smaller ones in and taking out dragonets that had been hurt, then they went back in once more and got the rest of the dragonets out of there. This incident, though traumatizing to most of his fellow dragonets, only inspired him to be an Outclaw even more.
Once the fire was out and everyone was safe, he found the Outclaw he had told about the fire, and asked him about becoming an Outclaw.
"You want to be an Outclaw like me?" He asked, "Well, Ill have to take you to Thorn, but she is kind of busy right now with her daughter just showing up to town."
"Wait, the Dragonet of Destiny is her daughter?" Sand asked.
"Yeah, although this information isn't exactly out for knowing of a scrawny dragonet like you,
Thorn requested some alone time with her, so I can take you back, but you might have to wait a day or two." He said. This made Sand's heart almost lunge out of his throat.Just another day or two! He thought, Im going to be an Outclaw in just another day or two!
Once he was brought back by the Outclaw, whos name had been Lizard, he actually ended up waiting about 4 days for Thorn to get back. In these days, Lizard showed him what it was like to be an Outclaw, and when Thorn got back, he ushered him into a tent that he had explained was their HQ of sorts.
"Thorn, I have a dragonet, one of the victims of the orphanage fire from the other day," Lizard said, "He wants to be an Outclaw. What do you think?"
Thorn did a closer inspection of him, and told him to come with her out back. When he followed her, there was a small wall there, with several poles sticking out of it. She instructed him to first weave his way around the poles while flying, which he did.
The second test was for him to maneuver on top of the poles from one side of the wall to the other, which he did, but sloppier, because he was very sore from the tight movements of the last test.
Finally, she sat him down and asked him a few questions.
"So, white Sand, why do you want to be an Outclaw?" She asked.
"Well, I've wanted to be one for a long time. You guys keep the peace around here, and I would love to help you," He said, "because many of the dragonets I lived with in the orphanage with had always been mean to me, and they stole from people, a lot of people." He finished. that was a mouthful, he thought.
"I want to help stop the stealing from other dragons, because if it keeps going, someone might get killed." He said.
Thorn looked at him optimistically, and then said, "Well, I like you, White Sand, and I would love to give you a roll as an Outclaw," She said, then turned around and stated that, "I'm sorry, but for now, you will have to work as a messenger and work your way up. You are far to young to help guard the Scorpion Den."
He accepted this fact, and she gave him his roles and times. For the next 4 years, until he was 7, he worked his way up the ranks to a guard position, and all his fellow dragonets from the orphanage admired him.
But after the war had ended, Thorn had became Queen, and did not need all the guards, so she selected a few from her many guards and sent them to the school the Dragonets of Destiny had opened.
He didn't know if this was fate or not, but he was chosen to go there, and because it was his Queen's choice, he was leaving at dawn to go to this new school, called Jade Mountain Academy.
