I pulled outside our front porch. Climbed out of the car then started walking toward the front door. I give my car keys to James, our loyal butler. When I started to reach for the door knob. The door suddenly swung open revealing a grinning Rosie, my cousin and Uncle Freddie's daughter. She lunged to me for a hug. I was startled and started to lose my balance. I fall to the ground with Rosie clinging tightly are me. We landed with a loud thud. My breath was suddenly knocked out from my lungs.
I bet my behind is red from the impact. I heard footsteps towards us. I looked at the door to see my mother's horrified expression together with my dad, Uncle Freddie worried expression and lastly, an amused expression on Franklin's stupid face. I glared at Franklin's direction. Franklin Scotts, my uncles only son. The blonde hair demon who torment my every waking days when we were still children. Finally, Uncle Freddie help Rosie to get up. Then I push myself to get up, ignoring Franklin's offered hand. Hurt flashed in his eyes but somehow manage to conceal it quickly. I dusted myself. Rosie look at me with apologetic eyes. "I'm sorry, Marg. I didn't mean to knock us to the floor." She said putting her famous puppy dog smile and pout. I mentally face palm myself. How could I say no to that adorable face. And Rosie is my most favorite cousin. Not that I have lots of cousins but between the two of them, I always prefer Rosie. I furrowed my eyebrows. Mentally debating myself not to give in to her. I sighed then pat her in the head. Then I give her a small smile. Her eyes went wide then beamed at me. She jumped up and down then hug me again. Now I prepared myself from the impact. The people around us laughed.
Rosie is three years younger than me while me and Franklin is at the same age. We proceed to the dining room. Everyone went to their selected seat. My dad at the head of the table, my mom at his right side, Uncle Freddie sat beside my mom and all the younger children sat at the left side of the table. Beginning with me at the left side of my dad, Rosie beside me and Franklin at her side. We ate quietly until Uncle Freddie spoke up. "How are you, Margarett? How is school?" He looked at me.
"I'm fine and I guess, school is school. Everything is the same. Plain and boring." I shrugged.
"You find the lessons boring." Uncle Freddie said. The way he spoke it, it's a statement rather than a question. I can still feel his little hatred for me. Even though we came into a truce two years ago. He just couldn't let go. I guess even though you seal that stinky hole, the smell will always find it's way out. "Are you still the number one in the rank?"
I shrugged then nodded. I continued to eat the food in front of me. Saving me from answering my Uncle's question. As if sensing my discomfort me mom spoke up.
"How are you Freddie? It's a very long time now that you came to visit." She said. "I think it's a year now."
"Six months, Vic." My Uncle corrected. "I'm fine. But not so fine three months ago. I should have pay attention to the red flag around me. I'm such a fool." He said shaking his head.
I saw Rosie's hand suddenly tightened around her fork and knife. Her hands begun to shake. I lifted my hand then place it above her clenched fist. She suddenly look up at me. I give her a small reassuring smile. Maribeth, Rosie's mother and Uncle Freddie's wife, suddenly left them with no explanation. She just disappeared from their house without a trace. Leaving her husband and two children. Uncle Freddie was so devastated and hurt. I think it's the reason that he act bitter right now. We heard some news that Aunt Maribeth left with a man and they are now living together. We also heard that she is three months pregnant. I really felt bad for Rosie and not so for Franklin. Just kidding! Of course I also felt bad for him. He is still her son. I glance at Franklin, who is staring narrowly in front of him with clenched jaw. As if he knew that I'm watching him, he glance at me. We stared with each other. Then a smirked is started to appear in his lips. I scrunched my nose then look at the adults again shoving a cut potato in my mouth. Our dinner finally came to an end. We are currently sitting in the living room. The adults are talking with each other while the three of us is watching some random shows in the plasma television. Rosie held the remote control and happily flipping at the channels. Until she found a cartoon channel then stayed with it. Me and Franklin sat at the opposite side of the sofa. Boring... Boring... Boring... I couldn't take this anymore! I felt like pulling all my hair out with my bare hands out of boredom. I push myself up from the sofa then stretch my body. "I'll excuse myself first." I announced inside the room. Without waiting for a confirmation I started to walked toward the door. Then climbed the stairs toward the second floor then went inside my room. I throw myself into the queen size bed, face first.
