It was coming up to a year since you'd started teaching at Hogwarts, you had become close with Minerva over the past few months due to your classrooms being so close to one another and often spent time with her outside of work hours.

Minerva enjoyed gossiping about various students and staff, mainly focusing on their fleeting relationships instead of their grades for a change. You managed to catch up to her in the corridor as the students were filing in and out of their classes.
"Free for a minute?" You called out as Minerva spun around to face you, greeting you with a kind smile and nodding.

"Did you manage to drop by and hand over those materials to Severus?" Minerva asked, holding back a smirk as she raised her eyebrows in wait.
"No, sorry, I got distracted. I'll drop them over before his 10am class tomorrow." You responded as she rolled her eyes at your forgetfulness.
"That's fine, if he needed them urgently he would get them himself, lazy git." She muttered.
"I wouldn't say lazy, Sev's very driven, is he not?" You questioned, defending the potions master.

Minerva shot you a look, furrowing her brows.
"I suppose... spoken to him much recently?" She asked.
"No more than I've needed to, he's not exactly talkative." You scoffed.
"I'm sure he'd be delighted if you turned up unannounced for a chat." She muttered.
"Really? Why? Has he said something?" You asked, sounding overly eager. Minerva chuckled, amused by your excitement over the man who, thus far, had shown no interest in you whatsoever.
"Of course not, he never says anything, only listens and watches." She muttered.

"I'm sure he wouldn't mind a hand with his next class, it starts soon but you should make it, it's his least favourite group." She explained.
"I should just turn up?" You asked, suddenly feeling nervous to be in his presence after barely exchanging any words with the man.
"Well, why not? Just don't tell him I sent you, it's bound to get him riled up over nothing." She chuckled.
"Okay, I'll blame my arrival on witch's intuition." You quipped as you wandered off towards the dungeons.

You arrived at the potions classroom door and knocked firmly, listening intently for a response as the hum of students chattering filled the halls.
"Yes?" Severus called out in a low tone, peering over his shoulder at the door as it opened. "Miss (Y/l/n)." He cooed, softening his features as you entered, taking him by surprise.
"Professor." You smiled, greeting him with a warm approach as he looked you up and down and avoided direct eye contact.

"Is there a reason for your intrusion or are you just checking up on me?" He asked, raising a brow at you as his students took their seats. "Delivering my materials, perhaps?" He questioned, tilting his head as he noticed you came empty handed.

Shit... maybe if I had half a brain- You thought, stopping yourself as Severus shot you a disapproving look.

"Oh, no sir, my apologies... Minerva- um, I mean, witches intuition had me believe you would need a hand with this lesson, I came to offer one." You smiled, hoping he missed your slip up.

Merlin, that witch and her big mouth. He thought, cursing Minerva under his breath as you stood in wait.
"Yes, of course, I could do with an extra pair of eyes and ears. Come, join me at the front and I'll get them started with something." He explained before droning on about the importance of practising proper behaviour in his lessons, repeating himself as he did every day.

"You know, Severus... Minerva only has to shout a few times a month and she has her class's full attention, it wouldn't hurt to try it sometime." You suggested, knowing his calm approach to their misbehaviour would continue until he put his foot down.
"I don't need to raise my voice to get what I want." He muttered, dismissing your unsolicited advice.

I'd like to test that theory. You thought, smirking to yourself as he shot you a stern look before continuing with his lesson.

As the lesson drew to a close, Severus thanked you for helping out, although all you were able to do was answer intrusive questions from the students about your non-existent love life and wander in between their desks, swatting their tables as they drifted off to sleep. Severus watched you throughout, letting out a few low chuckles as the students went bright red, embarrassed at being caught by you.
