a/n - this one comes with warnings, it's a more serious one. Mention of se*ual assault (NOT between Severus and reader), trauma related behaviours, injuries (not graphic) - please don't read if you're not comfortable, I hope it brings comfort if you do read it <3
It had been a week since the incident and Severus had begun to get suspicious. He noticed you became withdrawn in conversations and the familiar glint in your eye had faded significantly. He had made no effort to confront you on your change in attitude but made sure to keep everything in order during, what felt like, your absence. You sat alone in his chambers, staring blankly at the room that used to feel safe, but now had the opposite connotations.
"Are you getting up?" Severus called out, opening the door to his chambers and noticing you flinch before playing it off as a nod. He furrowed his brows and looked you up and down before averting his eyes for a moment. "Am I interrupting something?" He asked, concerned for your privacy. You waited for him to look back before shaking your head dismissively.
"Sorry, come in." You responded, embarrassed.Severus apprehensively stepped into the room and cautiously closed the door behind him, being careful not to startle you. He wandered over to the bed and knelt down, fighting the urge to read your mind and doing his best to respect your boundaries.
"You don't have to tell me what happened, but I would really appreciate it if you did." He whispered softly, trying his best to convey his true concern in his shaky voice as you hung your head in shame. "You don't have to be afraid." He reminded you. "It's me, darling, you're safe."His words tipped you over the edge. He caught your eye as you gave in to his willingness to listen, quickly falling apart as he took your hand and gently stroked his thumb over your knuckles.
"Last week... w-when you organised a cover professor for potions." You started as he nodded and his face tensed. "I think there was a... s-slight miscommunication in h-his duties." You muttered as tears fell from your cheeks, landing on his hands and sliding down his wrists. He removed his robe and handed it to you. You quickly buried your face into it, breathing in his scent as he studied you.
"He should've read the plan." Severus responded innocently.
"He didn't need your plan, he had his own." You snapped back, frustrated with your reality. You stared into his eyes as his heart sunk."(Y/n)." He muttered with a slight change of tone.
"He used me, Severus." You cried, clenching your jaw as the memories began to flood back. Severus took the opportunity to scan your thoughts, collecting the traumatic images you had kept private and feeling the familiar mix of rage and a loss of control course through him. He watched as your endless stream of hurt played out in front of him, feeling hopeless at the final still sight of your frail frame left alone in his chambers."He brought you back here?" He seethed, trying to maintain composure as he watched you relive the moment over and over again. You nodded slowly, unable to focus on anything other than your thoughts. "You're safe, you're with me." He reminded you, trying to ignore his own emotions. You looked over at him as his touch broke you from your fixation. "He's gone." He said softly, smoothing his thumb over your knee and trying to piece together how it happened in his head.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner." You choked out, "I-I had to... come to terms with it myself first..." You explained. "I feel so... dirty...""You don't have to justify your actions to me." He responded, standing up and wandering over to the bathroom. He turned on the tap and ran you a bath, mixing in the calming scent of lavender and chamomile in an attempt to relax you. Severus looked back over his shoulder, checking on you briefly before turning off the taps and rejoining you at the bed. You looked down and winced as he gestured to the bath. "You don't have to, I thought it might help."
"No, it will... I just don't... can you look away?" You mumbled.
"Of course." He responded, moving towards the sofa and sitting down, his eyes locked on the wall opposite him.You began to disrobe and let your clothes fall to the floor, making your way over to the bath and climbing in. Severus listened intently as you sighed, releasing your stress.
"Would you like me to stay here and wait?" He called out, tilting his head.
"You can come in." You replied.Severus got up and walked over to the bath, noticing your wide eyes follow him as he picked up a clean towel and laid it over the radiator before sitting beside you on the floor. You smiled weakly, showing your appreciation for his gesture and lifted your hand over the rim of the bath.
"Thank you." You muttered as he took your hand and played with it, running his fingers over your palms.
"You're welcome." He mumbled in a soft tone, trying not to bring light to the obvious signs of bruising on your wrists as you watched him closely."I promise I won't leave you again. And if I do, I'll leave you with someone I trust... someone we both trust." He reassured you. You nodded in gratitude.
"Can you help me?" You asked quietly, picking up the soap from the side of the bath and handing it to him.
"Yes." He responded simply, noticing your hands start to shake. "Slowly and gently, tell me if you want me to stop and I will." He outlined, making sure you were comfortable.Severus washed your body, taking note of the areas you didn't like to be touched and praising you as you calmed yourself down.
"You're doing so good." He soothed, pouring water over your back and washing away the suds. You sat soaking for a further few minutes before getting out. Severus grabbed the towel he had warmed up for you and wrapped you up in it, holding you close as you leaned against his chest. A single tear ran down his cheek and settled into your damp hair, going unnoticed as he dried you off and grabbed you some clothes to change into."I'm going to request a room change." He decided as you laid on his chest, listening to his heart beat as he stroked your back.
"You don't have to, I'll be fine." You reassured him, feeling guilty.
"I want to, you need to feel safe again." He explained. "I'll take care of it in the morning, you can join me in my classes tomorrow, you don't have to help out, just sit at my desk." He offered.
"Thank you." You responded, as the idea of hope returned.a/n - short, different, I just had to get this one off my chest, thank you for reading <3
