Breakup Blues (Midorima x Reader)

Love. It's a bitter-sweet thing to feel. While it was this very emotion that made you feel happy, nervous, and giddy all at once, it was also the emotion that wrecked your heart. You thought you were in love; in fact, everything seemed to be going great-that is, until a week ago.

The air was cold and the grey clouds blocked out the shining sun, yet you smiled and breathed in the frosty air. Despite the gloomy clouds that spread across the sky, the streets were alive with a rush of people weaving in and out of the many shops scattered along the street.

Your hand was tangled in that of a larger one, the closeness of skin warming the palm of your hand. A rosy blush tainted your cheeks as you dragged your significant other into one of the shops, looking around for a few moments, and leaving. A sigh escaped your lips as you leaned your head against his shoulder, your smile never faltering. He had been quiet for the time you two had spent together, only uttering a few words throughout the day. Although, you didn't mind; you were just happy that you two had gone on a date-it had been a while.

"(F/n)," The sudden sound of his voice made you jump. Looking up at him, you smiled and tilted your head slightly.

"Yes?" His hand wiggled out of your own and you cocked a brow at the sudden distance he had put between you two. Looking up, his eyes failed to meet your own. Shoving your hands in the pockets of your coat, you waited a few seconds before repeating yourself. You watched as he sighed and ran a hand through his hair-a hand that was once woven with your own.

"I think we should...break up." The smile on your face immediately disappeared and was replaced with a look of horror and confusion. For a moment, you swore your heart had stopped beating.

You throat ran dry as you attempt to swallow, but all you could gulp down was the cold winter air. "W-What? I-I don't think I heard you right. " Oh, how you dearly prayed your ears were defying you. He couldn't have said that...right?

"Please, don't make this any harder than it has to be." Ah, so he did. "I just think our spark is...gone, you know? I know you're still in love with me, but I feel like I'd be leading you on when the feeling obviously isn't mutual. I'm sorry, (f/n). You're a really great girl, but I think we should see other people."

You stare at him, obvious shock swept across your face. You wanted to say something, anything. You wanted to scream, plead for him not to leave you. Alas, the words never left your mouth. Sighing, he pat your shoulder gently and turned off, walking away. Your eyes focused on his back as he slowly disappeared into the crowd of people.

Your cheeks stung. Snapping out of your trance, you reached up and touched your cheek. They were wet. "I think we should break up..." You quietly repeated his words and your lips trembled as you stood silently within the crowd of people, tears silently running down your face. There you stood-heartbroken, cold, and alone. Oh, how love hurt.

After that incident, you had to call your friend, Takao, to pick you up from the small outdoor market, seeing as how your boyfriend (now ex) had left you without a car when he walked away.

And so here you were, sitting alone on a couch staring blankly at the television surrounded by tissues and a variety of comfort foods. Growling, you chucked a tissue at the filled trash bin, missing and watching it fall to the floor. You wrapped the blanket tighter around your body and sniffed, burying your face within the warmth of the blanket.

"'I'm sorry,' my ass." You growled, mimicking his bitter words. You had been like this for the past week after the breakup; angry, sad, and wanting to be left to wallow in your own misery. Your mother pitied you, allowing you to skip school until you felt better. Earlier in the day she had gone to get some groceries to make your favorite dinner. Bless her soul, you thought.
