I stare into the streets of our world, I see a women being mugged by kids for her money, I scoff, I turn to my right and the building next to me is up in flames. The government will be here soon to put it out, just another day in Subway OH. I slip on my shirt and my jeans, today's the day every 18 year old must get a job. I grab my ID card, I look at it for a second, Thacher Vari, citizen #386686890, age 18, Date of bith cycle 12 set 9. Grandpa always nagged about how we used to have things called days, months and years, he said back in the old world before the government screwed it up. He always talked about looking up and seeing a endless blue "Sky" as he calls it, where a ball of fire kept it warm everyday. 3 weeks ago was his funeral, he was placed in the pipe and shot off somewhere. I step outside and the guy that lives next to me follows me trying to talk.

"Thacher, buddy how're you doing?" He was always so weird, he told me when we were little that his grandparent was called a president, what ever that is it sounds stupid. I turn and look at him, he wore the same attire as me every day, everyone did. "Did I do something to make you mad again?" He hits my shoulder, and I laugh.

"No I just hate looking at your ugly ass Mark." He laughs now and we begin walking, "So" I say, what position are you hoping to get?" He lets out a long hum and shrugs.

"Something easy and simple I hope, like daycare or police." I look at him with a 'Are you serious' look and he laughs. In this city there are a few jobs everyone must do, Firemen, Police, Enforcers, Cooks, Daycare, and what everyone wants to get guard. "What about you?" He points to me. I think for a moment but we're stopped by the firemen.

"Kids get outta here Appartment 12's going up, I wasn't picked to baby sit so get outta here!" His breath smelled of chalk a booze, but we did what he ask.

"It's probably best if we get to the center of town for the drawing." I nod to Mark and we take off at a jog towards the center.
