Alright, I was going to wait to make anything V3 until I finished the entire game playthrough, but I've had this in mind since it happened and a really want to go through it. So, at the end of the third trial after the execution, that scene where Himiko cries. What were your thoughts initially on that and the pieces of dialogue before? Did you put any thought into this exert from Kokichi (I got these pictures from a Reddit post that mentioned this, and it made me happy to know I wasn't the only one who thought about this):
Kokichi not only exposes Himiko's tendencies, but he also encourages her to let them out and seems to want to know why she WON'T. I think people look over this because Kokichi is a character who often seems apathetic to others' feelings. However, in this scene, he's encouraging Himiko to express her emotions. We can see here that he does seem to care about the feelings of those around him, however much he hides it. Although, I also think he might be like a wide variety of people who say things like that. He needs to take his own advice. I also often have thoughts about this scene:
It seems extremely out of character for Kokichi, in my opinion. Yes, he just got punched but don't we all agree he's more the type to overexaggeratedly whine/vent about it? A classic "You're so mean" or anything at all? In his free time events, he gets cut by a knife and laughs. He usually prods at Kaito as well, so I think he'd usually have a more vocal reaction. But anyway, I may want to mention what I think is odd? It's how he stops speaking after. Like, that wouldn't be a usual reaction for him, in my opinion. Not to mention afterwards we don't get anything else from him and remains on his- as I've seen it labelled- 'despair' sprite. So, I keep asking myself what about this was so different? While looking for an image of the scene, I did find a headcanon I think would make sense, but I don't think the same. I feel like it has to do with what's said after. Kaito asks him what's gotten into him and that he's gotten weirder than usual. I think Kokichi is actually a lot more sensitive to what others think of him than he lets on. Though I also agree with the headcanon I found (It mentioned his parents, I'll keep it at that), as Kaito does mention knocking some sense into Kokichi if he continues, but the times before it's more him questioning Kokichi. I don't know exactly what I take of this scene, because as much as I believe Kaito's questions have something to do with Kokichi's uncharacteristic quietness but I also don't think Kaito's opinion matters as much to Kokichi as most others. I feel like this also flips back and forth, but my mind often conflicts itself and I overthink so I don't know ~^~
Also, I think Kirumi is actually very important to Kokichi. Do I think this because of him calling Kirumi mom? Yes. But is it for some silly reason? No. I believe that Kokichi genuinely saw Kirumi as a mother figure; like the mother he never got. Kirumi also treats Kokichi with relative respect, and I think he's really grateful for her not sharing the same thoughts that he's always lying (At least, I don't believe she does) and is glad that she seems to respect him as he is, and doesn't hate him like most of the others seem to.
Also, small headcanon. Um- I don't know why this has come to mind for me, but some part of my head thinks Kokichi met the other DICE members in a mental institution after trying to run away from home. I think it's because of the uniforms being white and having those straps around the legs. I for some reason believe that all of them were there for the reason of running away from home, but they all managed to plot an escape and stuck together after that as DICE. I really have no idea why I have these thoughts, I just do.
I also headcanon that the pasts of them all ingame aren't entirely fabricated. I think their pregame and ingame pasts are the same up until the time they gain their Ultimates, and removing any memories they had of each other prior. For example, pregame Shuichi's parents were often neglectful and too busy to pay attention to him until it got to the point he was left with his uncle, but none of the case things happened. Though, I can't give any proof of this because I've only seen the game itself up to the middle of the fourth trial and am mostly going of spoilers I get from reading and watching videos.
This is probably the longest chapter I've made here ~^~
