Belle’s POV:

I plucked the strings of my violin and started to play. It was the middle of the afternoon and my mother and father were gone from the house. Char and Peter were somewhere but I didn’t know or care where they were.

I played for a little while before I heard something it the window in my room. I walked out onto the balcony and saw Fredrick standing in the shadow of a tree. I shot him a playful scowl and shouted,

“Fredrick, what are you doing?” He chuckled and whispered/shouted,

“Where is your parents?” I shouted back,

“Gone from the house. What are you doing?” He laughed and moved from the shadows.

“I came to ask you something. Why don’t you come down and we can talk.” I nodded and after making sure my violin was safe in its case, I ran outside to where he was.

I smiled up at him and said,

“What did you want to offer me? Is something wrong?” He looked down at me and took my hand.

“Belle, I know our parents don’t like each other. But I was wondering if I could have the honor to court you in secret.” I stared at him and quickly nodded. The secrecy appealed to me and that fact that I was getting this amazing guy courting me. Then, I remembered he already had a girl.

“Fredrick, what about the girl your father wants you to marry?” He laughed and said,

“I can deal with that easily. Don’t worry. I want nothing to do with her. So, may I court you?” I quickly nodded.

“Yes, Fredrick, you may!” He quickly hugged me. I grinned up at him and said,

“Now, what shall we do? We are now courting so…” I took his hand and he squeezed it. I couldn’t quite believe my luck. He took in pointer finger and rubbed my nose playfully.

“Well, if you aren’t busy, I was wondering if you wanted to go on a picnic.” I giggled and dragged him into our kitchen. I prayed that neither of my annoying brothers would appear.

We were in luck and before anyone arrived I had finished sandwiches and we were on our way. Fredrick insisted I bring my violin and so I did. We had decided to go back to the tree beside the stream. It was a quiet spot where no one bothered me.

We sat down on the grass and didn’t talk for a while. Suddenly, I said,

“Fredrick, what will your father say?” He looked at me and frowned.

“What do you mean?” I smiled and took his hand in mine.

“I mean, what will your father think of you doing things behind his back?” Fredrick laughed and said,

“Oh, I really don’t care what he thinks. I want to court you and I don’t care if my father hates your family.” I smiled and laid back on the grass.

“Well, I don’t care either. We will have to be careful though. We can’t have our families finding out.” He winked at me and I blushed.

“No, darling, we can’t have them finding out. We shall have to be extra careful.” I blushed when he said ‘darling.’ Being with him made me feel special. I barely knew him but I trusted him. Something about him made me trust him. Maybe it was just the way he spoke, or smiled, or laughed, but I didn’t see any harm in secretly courting him.

“Oh, yes,” I said, pretending to be very serious. For some reason or another I was feeling in a playful mood. “We can’t let anyone know. My brother are tattletales so we shall have to keep our meetings to here and maybe in the village.” He squeezed my hand and said,

“Why don’t we agree to meet here every other afternoon? How does that sound?” I watched the stream for a moment before saying,

“Yes, that sounds perfect. Oh, Fredrick, you have made me the happies girl in the world.” He smiled and then glanced at his pocket watch.

“Good heavens, I had better be getting back. And you as well. We don’t want to arouse suspicions.” He stood up and then pulled me to my feed. “Oh, I guess we shall have to wait on the violin playing until next time. I am sorry for the rush.” I smiled and squeezed his hands. I really liked to hold them.

I smiled up at him and said,

“No worries. My brothers will be wondering where I am anyway. We can’t have anyone asking questions.” He shook his head and planted a kiss on my cheek before striding away. I waved him goodbye and took the first deep breath I had taken since he had arrived.

I was being courted by the man of my dreams. I smiled and ran back to the house. I played my violin for the rest of the day, in a much happier mood then before.
