Shredded clouds tinted in grey stigma whirled around the horizon, pouring their misery down to soil. Tears of the whimpering sky crushed on the pavement, running aimlessly through the drains. Shops were shuttered down, lampposts flickered time by time, their blazing light creating more darkness.
Beyond the warning of storm given by radio, a man paced steadily on the road, letting drops of rain sink in his sleeves. Sound of water splashing echoed throughout the space as the his boots clicked on the mud— he was lost amidst a whirlpool of emotions.
The man felt his eyes blacking out in an agonizingly slow speed. The crystal pearls gathered around his sight flowed down to his cheeks, mingling with the hem of his shirt. Knuckles white from the cold rain, hair dumped and frenzied around his forehead— didn't bother him as the man stood abruptly in the middle of the path, gazing blankly.
He couldn't decipher the beats his heart was beating— or did they actually beat at all? The air he inhaled, no more affected the stillness of his body, nor did any help to put himself together.
Lost. He felt so lost in his own world.
The sky lurched violently, thundering lashes around the blowing wind. Waves of water crushed against his feet, dumping them deeper into the ground. He let out the desperate sigh heaving in his chest, only making it more difficult to breathe.
Then he remembered why he was here— standing on a road where a sea full of despair rushed on, where humans cried for their pain in heart, where stones were treated as sapphires and also - where everyone's dream came true, maybe.
Nova.
He is here to get his lost star back.
Lips trembling like a cocoon being afraid to leave its peaceful slumber, he bent over the road and picked up a stone which laid curled around his fingers. He was desperate to believe that all he was doing would be true at the end, all the cravings he had would stay unscathed.
The well got more visible as the man approached nearer, rain falling endlessly on turbid bricks. None was caught in his sight, while the wind blew strongly against his frozen skin. A place which was always crowded by people wishing their hearts' desires, remained painfully lonely under the dark eclipse; contemplating.
He grasped the corners of well tightly, trying to steady his breaths. One more drop of fresh tear left his eyelashes as the man blinked slowly, gazing down at the dark pit. Raindrops poured themselves above the inky surface of water that rustled between the walls, embracing each other's untold wishes.
Making up his mind, the man closed his eyes and immediately found himself running around the blank canvas of fallen dreams, listening to his heart's wishes and trying to find the face of a certain girl who he cherished everytime. Sound of her tender smile rang through his ears, flashes of her hand entwining between his own came back, with her soothing voice healing his wounds like morphin.
His heart ached painfully against his ribcage as the man remembered their last conversation deep under his sleep. Her once gleeful face was hooded with grief, voice breaking into shreds with her lips mumbling only one sentence— I am sorry.
He refused to believe it.
Right at the moment, when life was back as he wanted, when every person he craved for stood beside him, with no more regret and no more hatred towards living— then why the girl who always supported his broken self had to step backwards? Why did she have to confess, that all of the feelings he felt, every emotions they shared, was only in dreams?
A face— he could only see when the world wouldn't be in his touch. A voice— he wanted longingly to hear. A dream— which he willed to come true.
His grip on the stone loosened as the man prayed for one last time and let it fall in the well, carrying his unspoken desires. He leaned back, still eyeing the well which stood lonely in front of him. All of the words he kept locked in his chest were finally breaking out, piercing right through his heart.
At the time, another stone hit the surface of the well, it's splashing sound sending awareness to his ears. The man glanced up and met with a sight he never imagined to see.
A little girl was whimpering silently at the opposite of well. Her nose flashed deepest shade of crimson, eyes were puffed and tiny hands touching the corners like him. She sobbed with another figure towering over her stood fixedly; an umbrella shielding their heads.
Under the heavy rain, he didn't waste a second to recognise them as the man's lips parted from shock. His gaze was discovered by the woman who was biting her lips not to break down at the girl's muffled sobs. Her grey hair was tied with a black knob, eyes tinted midnight blue while her face was crinkled in faintest veins. She also looked at him, astonished.
"Yoongi?"
"Mrs...Mrs. Choe?" his hands left the bricks, legs sprinting towards the middle aged woman, "What are you doing here?"
His voice was heard by the other girl sobbing over the well as Yoongi immediately lowered himself, taking her between his arms. She blinked for a moment to recognise who he was, then broke down again, crying harder than before.
Rain fell over the group, pouring down the same sorrow heaving in their chests. He hugged the girl tightly as his eyes wondered over Mrs. Choe, who quickly wiped her own tears away from her face.
"Brother..."
"Ssh, Eunji," Yoongi took her tiny hands between his, "Why are you crying? And what are you doing here in this late—"
"Bro-brother..." Eunji's faint voice came piercing like a knife at him, croaking out inch by inch, "Eun-Eunjung... she—"
"Eunjung?" the man tried to sound calm despite of the lump already growing in his throat, "Wh-what happened with her? Is she okay?"
His question was stupid. So stupid that he wished he had never asked; so selfish that he wanted to forget what Eunji said next.
"Sh-she isn't responding, brother...doctors said she may not survive."
