It was jeff.

I woke up in a cold sweat after that dream...... That dream? What was it about? That's when it came back to me.

I was running through the woods. I had to be. If I stopped, 'it' would catch up to me. I couldn't see it, but I knew it was there. I felt it. Out of nowhere, a tentacle appeared from behind a willow oddly planted in a forest of pine trees. It grabbed hold of my ankle, tripping me up. A tall pale creature, with no face and tentacles protruding out the back of its fancy black suit, stood above me. Its 'stair' made me attempt to crawl back slightly, but the tentacle tightly wound around my ankle made escape attempt impossible. Another of its tendrils pierced my stomach as I coughed up some blood.

That's when I woke up. I looked over at the bedside table where I'd discovered Jeff the night prior. He was......inside my tissue box I always kept on there, covered by a little old, woollen blanket my grandma made me when I was younger. I quietly got up, as not to wake him. When I arrived at the kitchen, I looked around for ingredients I had, not much that's for sure. After searching for a couple of minutes, I decided on French Toast been as it's pretty easy to make.

Once I finished preparing a couple of pieces, I heard a small tapping on the tiles of my small homely kitchen. I turned around to see, none other than Jeff. "Good morning." I said livelier than usual.

"You're not gonna ask why I'm in your house?" he asked slightly confused.

"Well, I'm guessing you climbed in through my window last night. But my real question is, why are you so small?"

"I don't know." he said with a hint of guilt. "The last thing I remember is being with my friends in our shared house."

"Do you have anywhere to stay then, Jeff?" I questioned, knowing I would regret asking.

"No. That's why I followed you home after I met you in the woods."

"Well, I suppose you could stay here until you can find your friends and get back home." I suggested.

"I would appreciate it as long as it wouldn't be any trouble." he said nervously not wanting to raise suspicion.

"It's fine. I could use some company anyway." "Would you like some French Toast?"

He opened his mouth to answer but before anything came out I heard his small stomach rumble. Proceeding to cut some off my piece and put it on a small dish to give to him. He ate it within a few seconds. 'For someone so small he's a fast eater'

After I finished my food we made some small talk it was 11 o'clock when someone knocked on my door. When I opened the door, sitting on my porch, in the pouring rain, was a large dog with black and red fur with eyes to match. After a minute I noticed something off about him, he looked..... Happy? By that, I mean he was baring his teeth but in a none menacing way. He had a smile like Jeffs. "Hey Y/N, what's taking so long?" Jeffs's voice called out. At that, Smile lunged forward knocking me over. "Y/N ARE YOU- Smile!?"

I clumsily got up, about to shut the door behind me when I saw a cat with similar features to the dog whose name I'm guessing is 'Smile'. I opened the door a bit more to let the cat slip though.

Walking into the lounge I saw Jeff being 'protected' by 'Smile' with the cat cowering over in the corner. "You gonna tell me what's going on here?"

"It's a long story" "At least we've found 2 more."

"I guess. So, is the dog yours?" I queried.

"You could say that, his names Smile. The cat, Grinny, is my friend Tobys."

"I'll make some sleeping arrangements for you three." I said, heading to my room so they could have some of my spare pillows. It took a couple minutes to set up a little bed for Jeff and arrange the pillows on the carpet for the animals.

I went to bed confused but, the loneliness was gone. For once in my life, I felt complete. It was nice, peaceful in fact.
