ALEX MARTINEZ hated two things: confrontation, and drawing attention to himself. He didn't like to make a big deal out of everything and was more than happy to sit on the sidelines and watch. Being the center of attention was never his thing. It was his junior year at East High, and the most he had gotten involved with was a choir club that was dissolved after three weeks due to low attendance. After that, he decided that he was just going to push his way through high school and pray that he would somehow break out of his shyness after he graduated and gather up enough courage to start his broadway career, which he constantly daydreamed about.

East High wasn't exactly the best place to get involved with musical theater or any sort of arts. Most people joined robotics and debate clubs, there wasn't much room for people who yearned to be on stage. Most teachers would agree that thespian arts were a waste of their student's time and that they should invest into something that would "Prepare them for the real world."

Alex didn't agree with the opinions of his teachers, but he didn't think there was anything he could do about it. It would take a lot in him to confront the staff members and explain that theater and music were how plenty of people expressed themselves and that they shouldn't be shamed for it, so instead he kept it to himself and wrote songs in his bedroom, sang covers of his favorite artist's music, and binge watched every musical he could find on Disney+.

And then, it happened. The theater club was up and running again almost as if an angel had been watching him and making sure that the universe would align in his favor. He was still unsure about going over and signing up for the club, even though it was his dream to perform on stage. So, instead of having an argument with himself and not auditioning due to his nerves, he was dragged over by his best friend, who made sure that he was going to go through with the audition and finally not let his nervousness ruin his chances at following his heart.

It took everything in Alex to not lose his mind knowing that he'd have to audition in front of a possibly large crowd, he lost sleep over imagining all the ways he could embarrass himself and be mocked forever by his peers. He was terrified of messing everything up for himself. But when he comes across a certain boy with curly hair and a smile that could make anyone melt, their connection makes him feel almost unstoppable, like they were destined to meet at some point and bring more color to each other's world.
