"Leah! Leah!" My little sister comes running up to me and looks worried. "What's wrong?" "It's grandma!" I follow her to see Grandma sitting in her rocking chair, not moving a muscle.
"Grandma!" I try to shake her awake, but she doesn't budge. "Yura call the doctor!" My sister quickly calls the doctor as I continue trying to wake up my grandma "please wake up..."
The doctor arrives quickly and checks for grandma's pulse, she smiles "she's alive" I sigh, relieved. "Why won't she move?" Yura asks "She seems to have low oxygen levels, don't worry i'll take care of her" I nod my head and ask Yura if she can watch grandma while I go buy some groceries
I quickly head out and buy some stuff to make dinner "Young lady!" I turn my head to see an old man selling jewelry "Would you like to buy some?" I shake my head "Sorry I don't have a lot of money on me right now..." He smiles "Here take this one for free!"
I'm a bit suspicious but take the ring from his hand "It's made from left over metal wire I had and pretty gem i found by the river" I smile and thank him "Are you sure?" I ask before leaving; The old man nods his head and I head back home admiring the ring
"I'm home!" I see Yura showing grandma her new toys "Grandma are you feeling better?" Grandma smiles and nods her head "Girls, come sit down and let me tell you a story." I loved when grandma told us stories, ever since I was a kid i've been fascinated with dragons, fairies and all sorts other things.
I place the groceries in the kitchen and sit down beside Yura "Have I ever told you girls about 'Mermaids'?" We shake our head and she chuckles "Mermaids live in the water, they live shiny things like rocks and jewelry" I think about the ring the man gave me on the way back home "Why do they like jewelry, grandma?" Yura asks
"Well you see, mermaids live very luxurious lives and they would do anything to get what they want." I gasp "Anything?" grandma nods her head and smiles "Mermaids aren't just women though, they can be men too. The women are very very beautiful and so are the men. That's how they lure their prey..." Yura holds my hand
"W-What do you mean?" Grandma's face turns serious "Mermaids lure humans to work for them as slaves or become their partner. If your lucky you'll be able to come back, but you'll never be able to go back to the water again."
"That's scary.." I say and grandma nods her head, agreeing "That's why we should never go by the river in the dark." Yura gives grandma a thumbs up "Alright girls, time to get ready for dinner!" The rest of they day goes fine, the doctor told us to make sure grandma doesn't sit all day and takes some walks. It quickly becomes dark and everyone goes to bed.
"I can't fall asleep." I sit up and look out my window "Let's go on an adventure." I quickly put on my shoes and head out the door. I walk for about 5 minutes till I reach the river, since this is a small island. I crouch down on the side of the river "Do mermaids actually exist?" I look around
"Fuck it." I take off my shirt and pants so that i'm only in my bra and underwear, I slowly get in the water make it sure no one is watching "Why is it so cold?" I slowly move deeper into the river feeling warmer the deeper I got "this is nice-"
I suddenly feel something pull on my leg causing me to scream. I move away from the spot I was standing in and look in the water "oh it was just a fish-" I then feel and hand wrap around my waist and quickly pull me into the water. I try to scream but my head was under water. I try to kick whatever was pulling me down, but there was no use.
I suddenly feel lips pressed against mine and I quickly open my eyes to see a beautiful man who looks to be the same age as me.
