(I literally drew that hickey for reference what has my life come to ☠️✋)

Rogelio was known to be a quiet and gentle giant, usually tagging along behind large groups and letting others do the talking. Now was no different- as he trudged through the delicate grass of the meadow he watched Kyle as he moved so easily around the place, knowing exactly which turns to make and which steps to go with. Rogelio thought of how much he must have missed in his absence- if the meadow was so different than how was the marsh?

"This is only a quick visit since we're meeting with the others soon, but it'll be worth it."
Kyle said, offering his flattened palm and leading Rogelio by the hand towards the thicket of trees they were approaching. Rogelio squeezed his partner's fingers gently as they hopped over glistening tree branches and soft soil, littered with small pools of water and their respective plants.

"You really know your way through this place."
Rogelio grumbled, smiling down at Kyle, who nodded and tugged at his hand a little.

The taller boy looked around once more and enjoyed how different everything looked now, how much the shrubs and flowers has taken over, how deep the pool of water had gotten. Being different, however, didn't sway him, and he followed Kyle contently.

"The best spot is just here, where the water is. You can sit with your feet in there and watch the insects and stuff go by."
They sat down on the warm log then, where Kyle had always enjoyed to sit, and kicked off their shoes. When their toes were in the water Rogelio sighed and lifted Kyle's chin gently with his thumb and forefinger, making his cheeks flush scarlet.

"It's almost as beautiful as you."
Rogelio said, before kissing his boyfriend. Kyle laughed and elbowed him, biting his bottom lip and looking out into the mossy water.

"I wasn't sure if hear something like that from you when you came back."
Rogelio's eyebrows shot up his forehead in surprise and he shook his head.

"What are you talking about? Of course I'm still gonna..."
He took Kyle's hands into his own and cocked his head until they were making eye-contact.

"Where's this coming from?"
Kyle sighed and smiled at him, before letting his eyes wander to the water.

"I was really worried that when you came back you wouldn't like me anymore, because I'm not the same as I was."
He mumbled, realising how ridiculous he sounded. Rogelio smiled at him and lifted a hand to his cheek, running his fingers along his jawline and slightly stubbled skin, eventually reaching his lips and curling over his smile.

"You know there's no way I could ever stop loving you."
He said. Kyle stared into his eyes and got caught in admiring the pink swirling in one of them, just before getting lost in the other's deep green. He smiled then, and reached up to hold the hand hovering over his lips.

"I know. You know I'll always-"
Kyle's sentence was cut short when a loud cracking sound shot through the marsh, coming from the space behind where they were sitting. He kept hold of Rogelios hand as he looked over his shoulder to see what it was, about to ask for an answer when a small rabbit hopped into view, cocking its head slightly at the sight of the human and his boyfriend at the bank.

Rogelio glanced over at Kyle and they shared a look of seriousness before bursting out laughing, finding it funny how much of a fright the small creature gave them. When silence settled once more Rogelio wiggled his eyebrows at Kyle and leaned back to rest on his elbows with a smirk.

"What was it you were saying? You'll always..."
Kyle glared at him and sat back, too, his cheeks flushing red.

"Something embarrassing."
They both smiled again, before Kyle opened his mouth and his breath hitched just at the back of his throat.
