A/N: You guys gave me some great inspiration, so thank you!! I hope you guys enjoy the chapter :)
If there was one thing Stiles already regretted about his freshman year of college, it was giving Scott a key to his apartment. Sure, he was Stiles's best friend and they shared everything, but Scott could be so annoying when he wanted to. For example, right now.
"I'm just saying, nobody ever tells me anything anymore. Ever since Allison and I broke up, they've been taking her side. You're the only one left who isn't hiding anything from me!" He had been complaining for the past hour and a half while Stiles laid in the middle of the living room floor and listened, reluctantly. Sundays were supposed to be for relaxing, but Scott let himself in and started whining about people not listening to him, despite him being their alpha.
"You were the one who broke up with her," Stiles reminded him, trying his best to be the supportive best friend. "Allison is human, and a former werewolf hunter, so she really doesn't have to listen to you. Besides, don't you want her to be happy? You said you've moved on."
"I want her to be happy, but I want my pack to listen to me," Scott grumbled, followed by a dramatic sigh. "Sorry, I know you don't want to hear me complain. You probably have homework to do."
Stiles did have homework, the homework Derek reminded him about last night before he left. Stiles felt the heat rush to his cheeks at the thought of Derek and what they did last night. He cleared his throat, hoping Scott didn't notice. "Yeah, but I can put it off a little longer. Wanna talk about something else though? This topic is getting old."
Scott snorted, shaking his head. "Yeah, alright, asshole," he mumbled. Then he said, "Argent told me there's another alpha that goes to school here. And one of his betas too."
Stiles lifted his head at this, trying to figure out if Scott was implying something. There was no way he could know about Derek and Stiles's little arrangement. Stiles was very careful. "It's weird that you still talk to your ex girlfriends dad who once tried to kill you," Stiles snorted, deflecting the conversation away from Derek. Stiles had gotten good at lying over the years, especially with a dad who is the sheriff and a best friend who can easily detect a change in heart rate.
"It's not weird," Scott retorted, rolling his eyes. "Anyways, not the point. There's a potential threat on campus. Argent is looking into it, but maybe we should do some snooping since we're here."
Stiles accidentally laughed out loud at the thought of Derek being seen as a threat. He was scary looking, maybe, but he wasn't a threat. And Scott snooping around might lead to him finding things he probably didn't want to find. "Maybe just let Chris handle it," Stiles suggested, trying to sound nonchalant.
Scott raised an eyebrow, clearly not buying it. "Since when does Stiles Stilinski not want to get involved?" he accused, making Stiles's face burn as he tried to come up with something to say.
"Maybe since my ex boyfriend tried to hand me over to an evil werewolf pack and tried to get me killed?" Stiles retorted. He was playing dirty, bringing up what Matt did to him. The asshole never succeeded since Scott swooped in to save the day, but it was still traumatizing. It was why Stiles had trust issues when it came to dating. Why Lydia scared off guys who tried to flirt with him by claiming she was his girlfriend. Stiles didn't understand why Derek was different, why Stiles trusted him not to hurt him. But he did, so he couldn't let Scott ruin that.
Scott visibly winced, as anyone did when Stiles reminded them about how much his life sucked because of Matt. Everyone treated him like he was going to break all summer because of it, until Stiles snapped and told them to stop babying him. "Right, sorry," Scott sighed, relaxing back against the couch again. "We don't have to look into it, but just be careful out there. His name is Derek Hale and I think Argent said his beta's name is Erica. If you run into them, play stupid. I'm not sure that they know we're here yet."
