Casey
"Two questions." My sister asks as we pull out of the parking lot. "Who was that and what the hell did you do?"
"To answer your first question, his name is Asher. He was helping me with a project." I tell her, deciding to leave out the part where he kissed me. "To answer the second one, I tripped and fell. I'm fine."
"Really? I'm pretty sure that if I asked you to stand on your own, you wouldn't last a minute." Damn it. She's got a point. "Don't lie to me, Casey. I know you aren't fine."
"Okay, it hurts like a bitch and I can't walk. I couldn't even stand up on my own when it happened." I admit, defeated and embarrassed, knowing that she has me beat. "Happy?" I add on, just for good measure.
"Yeah, actually, I am." She tells me, keeping her eyes on the road. "I don't like seeing you hurt and you feeling like you have to lie makes me feel worse."
"June, seriously, I just need to rest it," I reassure her. "I'll be fine in a few days."
"Why do you insist on being difficult when it comes to your injury?" She asks as she turns into the driveway.
"I'm not being difficult. You're being overly cautious." I challenge, undoing my seatbelt. Before I can attempt to get out, she grabs my arm.
"Stay here, I'll get your crutches." She instructs. I can tell from her tone that I don't really have a choice, so I stay in my seat, pulling my phone out of my pocket and texting Asher.
[Asher]: Did you get home okay?
[Casey]: Yes
[Asher]: Maybe when your ankle heals, we can go out on a proper date
I blush and smile as I write my reply
[Casey]: I would love that
[Asher]: See you on Monday ;)
[Casey]: Yeah :D
I turn my head as my sister appears in my peripheral vision. She opens the door, holding out my crutches. I slide my arms into them, wrapping my hands around the handles and making sure they're at the right spot on my forearm. I follow my sister from the car to the house, maneuvering myself up the front steps. I go straight to my room and sit down on my bed, putting my leg up. I reach over and unwrap the bandage I had around my ankle, replacing it with a brace. When I'm done I change into my pyjamas and get into bed, lacking the energy to go back downstairs. Less than ten minutes later, June enters my room and turns on my light. I cover my face with a pillow to shield it from the light.
"Can I help you?" I ask from underneath the pillow.
"Were you not wearing a brace today?" She asks as if she's just realized it.
"No, I wasn't," I answer, lifting my pillow off of my face and sitting up. "Until I fell, it wasn't that bad. I had a tensor on it, but that was all I needed.""Casey, you don't take care of yourself." She tells me, sitting down at the edge of my bed. "Do you need any painkillers?"
"No. I just need sleep." I reassure her. "I'll be fine in the morning."
"Okay. I'll leave you alone." She says, standing up and walking to the door. "Good night."
"Night," I respond, already turning over.
