Memories Found [ABANDONED]

Chapter 2 - I Don't Know

Sorry in advance, because this chapter is really short. (I promise the next one will be longer!)

(That night)

"Hey newsies!" Jack shouts from the main room of the lodging house. "How's 'bout we all tell Davey and Les more about ourselves, since they's obviously gonna be newsies for a while."

We all think that's a good idea, and stampede into the main room. I kind of zone out while everyone talks about their pasts because I've heard all the stories a million times, but snap back when Davey says, "And how about Fiddler?"

JoJo immediately starts talking. "Fiddler showed up here about four or five years ago. He's been mute his whole life, an' plays his fiddle ta sell papes since he can't talk. An' that's 'bout it."

"What do you mean that's it?" asks Davey. "All the rest of you so far have had intricate backstories, and all Fiddler has is a few sentences? That doesn't make much sense."

"Awww, why can't we jus' tell 'em," says Finch. "They's gonna be around for a while anyway, right?" He looks over at me.

I look at JoJo, then we both look at Jack, who gives us a slight nod. JoJo looks back at me, and I give him a nod to tell him I'm okay with Davey and Les knowing my secret. He nods back, then says, "Ok, you guys deserve ta know it. The thing is, Fiddler isn't a boy, and she can talk."

At first Davey looks surprised, but gets it after a few moments. Les, on the other hand, looks just plain confused. "You can talk?" he asks me. "And you're a girl?"

"Yep," I say.

"How come you don't talk?" he asks again.

"'Cause if I talk, then everyone would know that I's a goil, and that's not I want."

"Okay, so what's your backstory?" Davey asks. "Where'd you come from, and why'd you become a newsie?"

"I don't know," I say.

"You don't know?" Davey says. "How could you not know where you came from?"

Dun dun duuuuuuuuun...

Again, sorry for the short chapter, and now sorry for the cliffhanger! I promise the next chapter is longer, but I can't promise there won't be a cliffhanger :(

Just a little side note, I'm very sorry if I'm writing the accents wrong. I haven't written accents before, so if you have a correction or way I could improve, please tell me!
