Before I tell you about the End, I should probably start with the beginning.

Let’s start with the rumors. If you can call them that. Most refer to them as ‘conspiracy theories’. Crazy talk. You’ve probably heard the ones about- oh, I don't know, the faking of the moon landing, ‘inside jobs’ disguised as terrorist attacks, etc. They’re screamed by the weird, unshaved guys on the street corner, who smell vaguely of ham sandwiches and grab you by the arm and holler nonsensical things that you highly doubt are english words, as you shake them off and continue on with your day.

I’d bet you would never even listen. After all, who would have guessed they were right?

Maybe not about everything, but they were right about the End. It was coming. And the government knew all along. And then it came, and all people, everyone, had to answer for their carelessness. They thought they were prepared. They never truly were. But they had known what was coming.

They knew from 1983, when Area 51, the only place on the planet once known as Earth with the technology for interstellar communication, received an alien telecommunication message, highly encrypted and mysterious. After seventeen years of decoding by the world’s top linguistics, they discovered just how threatening the message was. Though I’m not going to tell you what it said (what? Even now, after said End, I’ being fucking monitored. Oh. Right, by the way, I’m a bit of a swearer. Offended? Close the fucking book. This is a lot of heavy shit right here. And even more swearing.)

In 2002, after much discussion and debate on behalf of the US government, who thought, for a highly non-apparent reason, that a threat on a  global-level should not be disclosed  to other governments, (and what resulted of that? Check under ‘hell in a fucking handbasket’) the ‘situation’ was reported to the United Nations, who unanimously voted that there needed to be a global defense network comprised of the greatest weapons available, to deal with this intergalactic threat. And, it so happened that the most powerful weapons available with combined participation of all the super-power governments on Earth, were filed neatly in a file marked ‘Plan Z’

This name was in reference to the fact that the plan was only to be instituted as a last resort. It wasn’t that the plan was all that complicated, (it was highly feasible, thanks to top-secret discoveries in the underground government labs) rather, that it was a bit of a long-shot. A lot of a long-shot, actually. Plan Z, in a nutshell, had a whole lot to do with what was known as the Genetically Modified Embryos (GME) project- a top secret experiment involving the highly-controlled mutation of human embryonic cells during and after fertilization.

Judging by my existence, these experiments were highly successful.

As per (apparently really damn loose) ethic laws at the time, babies who were the results of these experiments were placed in foster homes with pre-selected parents, until our fourth birthdays, when our very existence in schools, hospitals, and all public records,  were wiped, and we were taken from our homes, and moved to a top-secret training facility and school in the Swiss Alps, to be prepared for the end of the world, or preventing it. Though, as I’m sure you’ve noticed by the way I’m talking, we apparently failed at that.

But that training center, on the evening after my sixteenth birthday, one day past the twelve-year anniversary of my training, is where the End starts, and where we begin.
