"We've got a new one Nurse Kim! Coming in on the wire now. Major injuries to both parties. Bike accident with motor vehicle."

Nurse Kim sighed and reached for the clipboard that was handed to him. Being a trauma nurse meant that he hardly ever had time to breathe until the next emergency case would arrive. But boy did he love it!

"Bike involved with a car. 3 occupants of the motor vehicle with severe injuries. None of them were wearing seat belts and the rider flew and landed about 6 meters away from the crash site. Although, he did have his helmet on," the attending nurse, Jisoo continued. Seokjin was her senior and she was quite used to working with him.

"Okay, let's prepare the ER. And page Dr Ahn and Dr Kai."

"But Dr Kai is so young and inexperienced," Jisoo protested.

"No time like the present to gain experience then," Nurse Kim winked at her and went to set things up.

All his life, Seokjin knew he wanted to become a doctor. He loved working with people and the joy of helping others, warmed his heart to no end. But financial constraints and being forced to become the major breadwinner at home early on, had put paid to those dreams. His dad battled ill health and his mom had to stay home to take care of her husband. So instead, he worked hard and got a scholarship but it only covered enough for tuition in nursing. Seokjin took the opportunity and found that he fell in love with being a nurse anyway.

The doors to the trauma unit banged open and 4 gurneys were pushed through with medics calling out the severity of injuries of each patient. Seokjin and Jisoo got into action quickly. The adrenaline rush was instantaneous and Nurse Kim thrived on it. Before long, and as head of the trauma unit, he had secured each patient with a doctor and their team of staff to treat the patients in the motor vehicle. Seokjin himself assisted on the biker.

Out of all of them tonight, he seemed the one with the least injuries.

"Jungkook? Is your name, Jungkook?" Nurse Kim spoke to the man while he checked his vitals. He shone the light into his eyes and made notes in the file for the attending doctor. The man grunted and fell unconscious. Seokjin's lips resembled a thin line as they began to work on the man.

By morning, Seokjin was dead on his feet but he was happy that they hadn't lost any lives. He washed up and got ready to hand over the patients to the day staff.

As they walked from one bed to the next, the staff paid close attention to Nurse Kim. They all knew how diligent he was and were grateful that they had him. He made all their lives simpler with just how meticulous and dedicated he was to his patients and his work.

"And this is Jeon Jungkook. Came in last night with a broken arm and lacerations to his arms, legs and torso. Fortunately, he was wearing a helmet; that saved his head and his face from much damage."

Nurse Kim gazed at the sleeping man. They had managed to treat him easily but he was heavily sedated for now since he would be in considerable pain when he came to. Nurse Kim became aware of some gasps and giggles behind him. He turned and looked at his staff for an explanation.

"He's very good looking Nurse Kim. Wow!" Jennie intoned and the others in the small group nodded in assent.

"Let's keep our professional façades on nurses. We don't need that now especially when our patient needs us to help him recover."

The others sobered up. Sometimes, Nurse Kim could be very strict.

They moved on to the next patients until it was time for Nurse Kim's shift to end. He sighed heavily and made his way home. It had been a long night but he knew he still had some errands to run before he would get any rest.

He caught the next train on the subway and made his way to their local pharmacy, bought a week's supply of his father's medication and did some light grocery shopping.

"Hey mom, I'm home," Seokjin announced as he walked through their moderately furnished home.

"You look tired son. Go wash up and I'll set the table for you." She took the various bags from his hands.

Seokjin smiled and hugged his mother before doing exactly that. He loved his parents. They were the most important people in his life and he would do anything for them.

After his breakfast/dinner, Seokjin checked his sns accounts before falling off to sleep with the phone in his hand. His mother smiled as she stood in his doorway. Her son worked so hard for them and she was extremely grateful to him. She drew the drapes and closed his door quietly before going to her husband who was sitting up in bed.

"Our son is home?"

She nodded and went to sit with her husband of thirty years.

"He works so hard. I don't know what we can do to ease the burdens placed on him," she mused. "With the terrible working hours that he keeps, I don't know if he'll ever meet and fall in love with someone nice. I wish our son would be happy."

"He is happy Soyoung. But I know what you mean. You know, when he told us he was gay, it didn't really bother me. I sought of figured it out early on. But I just wish that he could marry and have a family of his own someday. Someone to take care of him so he doesn't have to work so hard."

Soyoung nodded her head and smiled at her husband.

"Mr Kim, let's put those thoughts aside and tell me what I can get you for breakfast."

She smiled at her husband as he did a cute aegyo and pulled her to his chest. Even after all these years, they were still like the teenagers that fell in love when they were high school sweethearts. They hoped their son too would find his true love and be happy. He certainly deserved it too.
