Stiles and Lydia were driving down to her grandma's lake house for the weekend. It was the two days before Christmas Eve and her grandma was getting out of the hospital on Christmas Eve morning. Lydia had told Stiles she wanted to make the lake house warm and welcoming for when her grandma arrived home and Stiles suggested she decorated it with Christmas decorations. Lydia had agreed and before she could debate otherwise and plead that she didn't want him to waste his time, Stiles insisted he helped. So this morning, Stiles had drove to Lydia's house in his Jeep, expecting to pick her up and drive to the lake house however Lydia, being her organized self, had already packed her Toyota with her newly bought Christmas decorations. Stiles knew he wouldn't win if he argued with her, having known her for so long, so he accepted it and left his Jeep in Lydia's garage, letting Lydia drive them down.
When they pulled up, Lydia opened the trunk and grabbed a box, Stiles grabbing a bag.
"How much exactly did you spend on Christmas decorations Lyds?" Stiles asked as they neared the door.
"Not too much but enough." She replied simply, fishing the keys out of her pocket and passing them to Stiles, as he had a free hand and could open the door easier.
Stiles smiled and turned the key in the door, kicking it open with his foot.
"Just put it down here." Lydia suggested, gesturing to the corner near the couch.
"I'll go get the rest, you stay here." Stiles said and before Lydia could protest, he was outside.
She started unpacking the decorations, carefully placing them on the table spread out.
Stiles came back in with two more boxes and shut the door with his back. Lydia turned around and could see him struggling by his face expressions. She ran over and took a box off him, it was so heavy she nearly fell over.
"Stiles, how the hell did you carry two of these in here." She exclaimed, rubbing her arm where she caught it on the edge of the box when she put it down.
"Lacrosse." Stiles answered simply, more focused on the red patch on Lydia's arm. "You okay?" He said, gesturing to her arm. She looked down at it and smiled. "Great."
"So did you bring a tree?" Stiles asked, looking over at all the stuff neatly laid out on the table.
"Yeah, just a small fake one. You want a drink?"
"Sure, thanks." He replied. Lydia went to get a drink and Stiles began opening the boxes he just brought in.
In one box he found a big wreath and a set of bells, along with some baubles and tinsel for the tree and a large snow globe with Santa's sleigh running around it. In the other he found the tree, that seemed to weigh a tonne because of the huge metal stand in the bottom.
"I'll sort that out, don't worry." Lydia said as she came back in and handed him his water. He took a sip and set it down on the coffee table, on top of a place mat.
Lydia reached over and started taking everything else out of the boxes, the stuff Stiles hadn't touched. As she did this, Stiles walked over to the table and looked at everything else. The table was full of cute little ornaments and decorations. There was a small nativity set, candles, lights. Stiles' eyes scanned the table but stopped when they came to a small branch of mistletoe. He smirked and picked it up. He spun around and held it up to Lydia.
"Put that down." She said, a small smirk placed on her face. Stiles chuckled and place it back in it's position.
"So where we starting?" He asked, walking towards her.
"I'm gonna go downstairs and tidy up the basement, from when your friend attacked it like a wild animal." She answered.
"She is a wild animal, and she is your friend too." Lydia shrugged in response and made her way to the stairs.
"Don't fall in those 5 inch heels." Stiles teased, Lydia flipped him off over her shoulder. He chuckled.
"Wait, what should I do?" He shouted, but she was already down there and didn't hear him. He sighed and decided to hang the wreath on the door.
Once he had done that, after about 10 minutes of trying to get it straight, he went back to the table, eyeing the mistletoe again.
He and Lydia had kissed before, but it was only to stop his panic attack. And he hadn't kissed back. Stiles knew he still had feelings for Lydia, he always would have he was just more mature about how he dealt with them now. Stiles and Lydia had definitely grown closer over the past 3 years, even Lydia couldn't deny that. But Stiles knew Lydia only saw Stiles as a close friend; a partner in crime. He knew he shouldn't overstep the line, he knew how Lydia felt.
However, it was Christmas. And what's a little Christmas kiss under the mistletoe?
Stiles picked up the branch and made his way down the stairs slowly, trying to be quiet to he could surprise her. When he got to the bottom, he saw Lydia dusting around and tidying everything away to the sides of the basement.
He snuck up behind her and tapped her shoulder slightly. When she turned around, he smirked and looked up to where he held the mistletoe, above their heads. Lydia looked up too then looked down into his eyes. A small smile snuck it's way onto her lips.
"Stiles." She whispered.
"Christmas tradition Lyds." He smiled. She chuckled and looked down, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
Last time Stiles and Lydia kissed, it was Lydia to start it and Stiles didn't really kiss back. This time, Stiles wanted to be the one to start it.
He used his forefinger to tilt her chin up so they were looking into each others eyes. He leaned in and pressed his lips softly to hers, stroking her cheek with his right thumb and holding the mistletoe with his left hand. Lydia reacted quickly and kissed back, wrapping her arms around his neck. They were level heights, with her wearing her wedged boots.
Stiles dropped the mistletoe and wrapped both his arms around her waist tightly, holding her in place. Lydia smiled into the kiss at his action.
When they separated, desperate for air, Lydia's eyes fluttered open to see Stiles smiling, his arms still wrapped around her waist. Lydia smiled back, keeping her arms in place too.
"You know i'm a sucker for traditions." She whispered. Stiles smiled.
"I thought i'd use that to my advantage." Stiles replied. Lydia's mouth fell open and she laughed.
"Thanks for helping me with the decorations Stiles."
"To be fair, Lyds, we havn't decorated anything yet." He pointed out.
"And who's fault is that? It would have all been done by now if I hadn't brought you with me." Lydia teased, moving her arms from around his neck and placing her hands on her hips.
"But you know you would rather have me here." Stiles smirked and she blushed. He knew Lydia too well and it made Lydia feel vulnerable when she was around him, but she could never deny that she liked it.
