Grillby's POV
Nothing but fragments of dust floated around my bar. Not even a single customer was inside of these walls. I sighed softly, pressing my hand against my flames as I boredly watched the open area. No matter how much I cleaned, this sudden dust would not dissapear. Was there a sudden duststorm down here? I mean sure- we have lived in the underground for more than 30 years and nothing like this has occurred, at least in what every history book speaks of. Yet, maybe a sudden storm could be the explanation as to why there were no customers in my bar at all today.
My flames crackled quietly as my eyes closed slightly, maybe I could just retire from my duties, take a stroll around Snowdin, and see if any of the other citizens know what is happening. I opened my eyes again, pushing my glasses up the bridge of my nose. I walked towards the door, gently tugging my vest off the coat rack that was placed beside the door and shrugged it on. My hand reached for the open sign, flipping it to read 'closed' to any passing civilian before heading outside.
A good five minutes had passed since I closed down the shop. The evening snow, crunched undertoe as I moved through the town. Not a single monster around, nor a single word spoken through the area. It was as though all of the town, had fallen asleep early. I quickly moved forward, not caring to wait around and watch the townships hollow silence. It had been such a weird day, yet a feeling in my gut told me it would only get stranger. I shook my head and continued forward, hopefully when I reached Sans' house, I could ask him if he or Papyrus knew what was occurring.
As I continued down the path towards the skelebrothers house, an unfamiliar figure appeared to my right. I paused midstep, and turned my head towards the person. After all of my years of living in Snowdin, I had grown to recognize each person's figure. Yet this one was unordinary. As I turned my head, it came to my realization that this figure was no monster. It was a human child.
The humans' dark brown hair fluttered in the wind slightly as they looked up at me. Their body was shivering from the cold, and it seemed as though icicles themselves were starting to hang from their nose.
"Little one, are you alright?" I asked softly, slowly approaching the human, I reached out my hands to touch them, but they backed away. "H-Hey, I won't hurt you little one. Please, maybe my warmth can help you. I can even take you to some shelter if you want. I doubt this cold weather is good for human skin anyways."
Yet, no matter how much I offered to help them, the human continued to back away from me. Their eyes were squeezed shut, as they shook their head at my offers. I sighed softly, not wanting to force them to come with me, but I also did not dare wish to imagine this child freezing to death. "Well, alright, if you would like, I could offer you my-"
The humans eyes opened as I spoke, showing a bright red pair of eyes staring at me. Their mouth rose into a crooked grin as they quickly dug into their bag, pulling out a water bottle. My eyebrows raised slightly, confused as to why they would need water in cool weather like this. Then again, humans did need water to survive, at least that is what his books stated.
Yet, before I could ask, instead of pressing the bottle to their lips, they quickly thrust the bottle at me, splashing water over the right side of my face, that dripped down towards my lower torso. Pain. Nothing but pain flared through my body, as I held onto my face. My knees shook beneath me as I slumped into the snow. I slowly blinked open my eyes, to take a look at the damage the human had caused to my torso. I let out a scream of shock at the sight before me. My body was slowly turning into a black obsidian state. Pieces of my flames were starting starting peel off into ashes, as they fluttered to the ground.
I looked back up at the human, my eyes widened in shock. "W-What did you do to me? Why did you do that?!" I asked, feeling my soul churning in my chest from panic. But instead of answering, the human simply smiled. Their neck twitched, causing their head to jerk to the left then back upright, before they spun around, and walked away, leaving me to lie here in the snow.
My eyes closed slightly in pain, not wanting to scream or cry, hoping that perhaps I would be alright, but when I opened my eyes again, I realized my feet had vanished into nothing, but dust. I let out a nervous scream, lava tears finally racing down my eyes as my arms fell to my sides. Was this really the end? Is this what happened to everyone else in the town? I pondered, wishing I could have realized sooner, the sudden sound of footsteps snapped me out of my trance. I grunted softly, turning my head towards the source of the sound.
A shrub trembled slightly, and a skeletal face quickly peeked out. Their eye sockets widened in horror as they lunged for me, screaming my name. "Grillby! Holy shit, Grillby, please, hold still... maybe I can help you?!" He spoke, his arms slipping over himself, tugging off his blue hoodie as he quickly tried to press it on my wounds. I moved out my hand, pushing his hand away from me. His eyes widened as he looked at me, tears started to swell beneath his eye sockets as fear visibly rested on his face.
"Sans, please don't make the hoodie I got you for your 12th birthday, dirty." I whispered softly, moving my hand away from his. His eyelights shone with sorrow, vanishing momentarily as he seemed to remember what happened that day. That one lovely day.
It was his 12th birthday, and I had been preparing a gift for him, for months. I had gone to a store, and found a lovely electric blue hoodie, it's rim was made of fake fur, and the inside of the hoodie was soft. Yet, it certainly was not enough. That night after I bought it, I decided to make it special. On the cuff of each sleeve, I stitched a small star on both sides. He loved the stars, and was always curious about what they looked like on the surface.
Once his birthday arrived, I had given him the hoodie in a light blue box. I could have sworn his eyelights turned to stars. He wore that jacket everyday after that, and the star pattern on the sleeves had slowly faded away, yet he always seemed happy in it. Almost as happy as the day he got it.
Sans shook his head, sitting on the snow beside me. His hand shakily moved forward to touch my flames, messing with them slightly. "Grillby, I- I'm so sorry, I wish I had come sooner, maybe then I-."
"Sans, there was nothing you could do. What was done was done, and it's not your fault, you did not know this was going to happen."
"But, Grillby, I-"
"Sans, I promise it isn't your fault. Besides, I promise you, that even though this may be painful to you to watch. But- I assure you that hopefully, we will be able to see each other again someday." A weak smile formed on my face, as I felt my chest slowly start to dust. I let out one last breath, "goodbye, Sans, I love you."
"See you soon old friend... see you soon." Sans whispered to me, as he moved closer, wrapping his body around me in a hug, before I dusted in his arms. Saying goodbye to this world forever.
