Grillby's POV:

I breathed out a sigh, flipping through the book I carried in my hand. Its pages reflected a creamy-yellow color, mimicking my flames as I scanned the contents of its pages. I had already cleaned an hour ago, ensuring that my apartment was clean from the ceiling to the smallest crack in the floor, for the guest I had been waiting to arrive.

I glanced down at my watch to check the time, 8:35 pm, he is late again. I breathe out a sigh, my flames crackling slightly in annoyance. Of course, it was like Sans to be late- he would be late for his funeral after all! Then again- it was always strange to me how someone could be so disorganized.

I shook the thought out of my head, glancing back down at my book to continue reading, but paused as a soft knock sounded at my door. I quickly put the feather bookmark into the page, slid it gently into the shelf where it belonged, and walked towards the door.

The sight on the other side brought joy to my day, which then again had never failed to do. Yet, he seemed a little peculiar, he had his hands behind his back. I shook my head, deciding to not question it. “Nice to finally see you, Sans.” I teased, resting my elbow on the door, before resting my chin on my hand.

The skeleton smirked at my statement, his eyesockets narrowing at me. “What’s wrong Grillbz, did you miss my smile?”

“All of it.” I giggled, as Sans walked closer to me, grabbing me by the shoulder and kissed me on the cheek. My flames crackled loud in slight surprise, not expecting to be kissed this early on in the night. My reaction seemed to make the skeleton fall even more head over heels for me though, because he burst into laughter, his skull falling against my chest.

I rolled my eyes at him, looking down to find his eye-lights watching me with a smug expression. “And what is that face, for now, Sans?”

“Oh, just that the night is far from over.” The skeleton laughed, as he moved off me, he looked at the ground before looking back up at me. “I have one last surprise before we do our plans!”

“Oh, and what may I have the honor of seeing?” I chuckled, crossing my arms, as my flames crackled curiously behind me. Sans smirked at me, moving his hands out from behind him to reveal a bouquet of Echo Flowers. My eyes widened as he handed it towards me, and as though on cue, all of the flowers said in chorus. I love you, hot-stuff!

I held the flowers gently in my hand, looking down at their beautiful cyan petals, I must not have realized the pink that had glossed the tips of my flames as I looked back up sat Sans. “You didn’t-”

“Shhh-” Sans murmured, resting a finger on my lip, I tilted my head, but before I could speak, he quickly kissed me on the lips. He broke it off within a few moments, his head resting against my forehead, as he grabbed me in a tight hug. “I did it because I love you, Grillbz. Just please accept my gift, and never stop smiling for me.”

I smiled, resting a hand on the side of his cheekbone, scribbling a small heart there with my thumb, as I hummed. “How long have you been preparing that speech to yourself in the mirror, Sans?”

“Grillbz, you know I’m serious!” He laughed, moving his hand upward to grab onto mine, his smile never faded for a second, as I felt my flames heat a little brighter from how passionate the shorter male was being tonight.

“You will just have to prove to me how much you love me- with your cookie decorating skills tonight.”

Sans snickered, moving his hand off my own, before tucking his hands into his hoodie. “Then I will prove myself- right as soon as you allow me inside.”
