Herbology. Uggh, as Sirius had said, and I now agreed. I thought I was a master at plants, a wizard of botany, but I was no genius. When was the intelligence for me supposed to kick in? Like, seriously. I hoped that it could get easier as time went on.
We were working on Mandrakes, which were sort of ugly plant babies. They were gross, and scary.
Merely a few minutes into class, Sirius found his way right next to me. He leaned in a bit and whispered to me, "I'm sorry. It is Aifric. Aifric is 'her'. You were right. I thought it wasn't her, and I was intent on being mad at her, but I can't be, because I'm in love with her. I've only known her for, what, two days?" Sirius ranted.
"You'd known me for less when you snogged me." I joked, but he just looked at me with an annoyed look on his face.
"I don't know what to do." Sirius sighed. I had to pity him.
"Why don't you try being nice to her? I've known her since I was eleven. She'll get over it if you give her chocolate and be nice. By the way, what is chocolate?" I asked. He looked at me with a look that would have been equal to his reaction to me saying 'I just killed your three best friends'.
"I'm not the right person for you to ask. Ask Remus." Sirius said. I sighed. I would ask him later, at dinner probably. Why was it such a big deal? It was only chocolate. It was a food, and I didn't like food. So, why would I like chocolate? I still had to satisfy Sirius by asking Remus about it.
The Mandrakes screamed repeatedly at us. I was getting pretty annoyed at them. Why did we have to deal with bothersome screaming plants? Why couldn't we just water a plant or plant a tree or something?
"What are we studying next, Devil's Snare?" I asked Sirius under my breath.
"No, we studied that in first year. Prongs almost got strangled. It was kind of funny until it turned on to me."
"Ah. That must have been good. What'd you do, charm the plant until it let you go?" I laughed.
"Pretty much."
We were silent for a minute. Sirius sighed, thinking. I decided to speak up.
"You know what, Sirius? I don't want you all sad like this. It makes me sad when you're sad. I will help you get Aifric. She will be yours, if you really want her. Within the year."
"Would you really do that for me?" he smiled, his face brightened up like the sun. "I would love you forever."
"You already do." I laughed. I looked at my watch- James let me borrow his. Herbology class was over, thank god. I couldn't stand this class.
But now I had to figure out how to give Sirius what he wanted, while also trying to figure out what I wanted.
