Moneka: First Day Out

Blossom like a flower to get bigger and better. Life isn't a fairytale. Take the extra mile to have greater. Bloom like a flower.

It feels good to finally go home after being locked down so long. My name is Moneka by the way. I'm 20 years old just turned 20 actually, I been locked up since 18. I bet you wondering what somebody so young as me was doing locked up in prison, well I can say life is funny and can also be your worse nightmare. When I was 17 my mother, Monica, moved me with her and some guy she was dealing with. I knew nothing about him, never seen him, never even heard of her talking about him. Long story short he tried to rape me so I told my mother but he convinced her I lied. It hurt me bad that she chose to believe him over me. Honestly I didn't know how to feel but it brought me to rage.
One night my mother went to work and left me home alone with him I knew that night would be the night I lose it all. I waited for him to creep in my room with a knife hidden under my pillow, an iron plugged up already hot, and a plot to handle what was never handled. I laid in bed that night scared contemplating on rather or not I should go through with this plan.
I fell asleep then woke up to a creek from my door but I played sleep one hand grasping the knife under my pillow waiting for him to make his move and he did so I stabbed him right in the back. He screamed " you crazy bitch," and I laughed everything went black for me I jumped up and grabbed the hot iron plugged into the wall. I slapped him across the face with the iron and laughed as he screamed out for mercy. I didn't care how much he screamed he didn't care to hear my screams.
My mother came in the house that night to see him laid in my room with a knife still in his back. His face that was once black as tar was now burned as if it was third degree. "What happened," She screamed. "What did you do you evil ass little girl, I'm calling the police," she stated. I didn't know what to do so I just stood there till the police came and cuffed me. His body was now in the back of an ambulance while they walked me out to the police car. I seen a crowd of people standing out I look to see my best friend, Monii, looking back at me with tears. I dropped my head ashamed of anybody else to see my face. I couldn't do anything but think what I was going to do next. "How will I get out of this," I questioned myself.
The police questioned me on why I did what I did so I told them but my mother made up a lie like I was an attention seeker who always made up stories. So yea I end up here with nothing no life to live, no graduation to see, no friends, and no family. I was in this alone everything was so unreal as the years went by I kept contemplating on what to do. While locked up I forgave my mother and builded a relationship with her I didn't know what to do when I got out though.
I was finally free with no purpose for life just a GED I received while locked up. My best friend picked me up and I was so happy to see her. "So first I'm taking you shopping and getting this hair done cause bestie I'm sorry to say but u let yourself go," Monii exclaimed. "I'm not really in the mood for all that right now honestly but I guess," I replied. "Wow girl I know we got to go do something cause no ma'am we got to get you in a better mood and have you been eating, you been letting them girls in there take your cornbread," she joked. "I thought you supposed to get big in prison not little at least you still got some booty." I rolled my eyes and prepared myself for all the prison jokes that didn't really seem to be actually funny.
Me and Monii entered the mall. It was nice to see the outside world again. It seemed like the air was fresher as I breathed it in. We shopped at all my favorite stores. Pink, Victoria Secret, then last we stopped at Source. As I was shopping I couldn't help but notice a man looking at me. "You see how he's watching me," I whispered to Monii. She laughed "girl he's trying to get your attention go talk to him." "He wants my attention. He has to come step to me," I replied. Of course Monii being her usual self waved him to come over. He definitely came over too. "How are you doing ma," he spoke. "Hey," I simply replied, I already could tell by his lingo he was probably a player. "I'm Devin, what's your name?" "I'm Moneka," I replied. "Awe okay, Moneka can I have your number?" I didn't even have a number, I don't even have a phone. I'm just getting out of prison there's no way I can tell him that. I looked at Monii. "Well she's going through a situation right now so we were just about to go buy her a new phone, how about she get your number instead. I'll make sure she calls you." Monii stepped in saving me from embarrassment.
