They were perfect. Not to anyone else but themselves.

Hushed phone calls late and throughout the night. Summer days spent together talking and laughing until he was called home. Stupid confessions, "I love you" and all. Their communication wasn't the greatest, yet they made it work. Writing down the things they were too afraid to tell the other before passing the phone off. He had met her parents, May 20th, 2020 was the date. Her parents loved him and trusted him to care for their daughter while they went out.

He made her happy more than anyone else, she never frowned when she spent time with him. In her eyes, he was perfect. She never wanted to get married, plans of being single for the rest of her life; until she met him.

Until she met him, Kirsten was lost, depressed and closed in. Unprotected and scared. Then he came along. Keon brought in the happiness she was missing for the last two years. Keon protected her, made fun of her and cared. Kirsten didn't know how to show affection to the ones she loved, so she showed it by being mean and teasing Keon.

At first, she refused the fact that she was in love with this boy until she didn't. He knew he loved her but both were too afraid to tell one another. Eventually they did, she had to guess it. Although Kirsten was able to guess it in an instant by hearing "I have to tell you something, but you have to guess" a few nights prior.

As time went on they learned most about each other, their past, what they wanted their future to look like. They knew each other inside out, what they'd say to certain things or how'd they react. As for their friends, they knew that wherever one of them were, the other would surely follow right behind.

Things stayed like this, perfect, for a while after they had confessed their feelings. Sometime after a few months had passed Kirsten had got a call.

"I don't think this is gonna work out anymore.." stated Keon with a shaky voice

Stund Kirsten took a breath before replying "Oh, alright then..we can still be friends, right?"

"Yeah, sure" that was an empty promise and she knew that just from his voice.

There was a moment of silence between the two, taking in what this meant for the pair.

"Well, is there anything else you need from me or can I go?" breaking the silence Kirsten waited for him to answer

"You.. you can go" there was clear hesitance in his voice, Keon knew that he'd be losing her. That frightened not only him but Kirsten as well.

Time froze in the following moments after their call, Kirsten stared at her grey bedroom wall in shock. She had lost her first love in that second, reluctantly she accepted the fact from rumor that your first love never stays and will be the one to hurt you the most, yet they'd always hold a place in your heart.

Losing the person you talked to everyday, someone you put two years of your time into, all the stupid memories and laughs. All of it feels like a waste of time, like some sort of sick joke. That's a big loss yet again "you're in high school, relationships never last." Everyone says time heals and that you'll get over it, is that really the truth? For a while it was the truth for Kirsten.
