"Merry, look," whispered Pippin as he got out his dagger. He swung it around, trying to make an impressive swing. However, the weight of it was too much for him, and he lurched to one side, almost falling.
"Great job," said Merry sarcastically.
Boromir looked at them curiously. "Have you never been taught to use a blade?"
"No, we've never had any need to til now," said Pippin.
Drawing his sword, Boromir smiled. "I can teach you, then, if you'd like." He looked at Sam, who was busy tending to a meal he was cooking, then at Frodo, who was watching them. "Frodo, would you like me to teach you as well?"
Frodo smiled and looked down. "Ah, no thank you. Bilbo's already shown me. Still, I'll be happy to watch."
"Alright then. It's just you two?" Merry and Pippin nodded enthusiastically. "I'll show you first," said Boromir, walking by Pippin. "What you need to start with is make sure you're holding your blade correctly. Move your hands like this, one on top of the other."

"Are you ready?" asked Boromir, holding his sword. Without a single word, Pippin slashed his dagger, defended by Boromir's sword. "Two, one, five," Boromir reminded Pippin of the parries. "Very good!"
