BLAISE

With Octavio gone, the house felt stranded. It wasn't that my father ever cared to stay back home with me on the weekends instead of working from his office away from home. But, I never seemed to blame him for that. The man had a change of heart ever since his wife unexpectedly passed away, leaving a shell of the person he once used to be, so no I didn't blame him for wanting to stay away from the house that his wife had chosen the wallpapers of.

Pain is good enough to kill someone as it is, it wasn't necessary that it would be my father though. But, at the end of the day he was still killed in the very comfort of his office while I just like every other night decided it wasn't worth calling him up to ask if he would be home for dinner. I wish that I had called him that night though. Just to say that it's fine not to be fine, dad.

My thoughts were cut short as the blonde man that went by the name Gregory came into the living room I had moved into for the evening. With the numerous scars running down both of his muscled arms that were visible from his black t-shirt, it was easy to predict he carried some dark experiences of his own. The other guard on duty, introduced as Lian, was stationed somewhere near the entrance of the resident. With dark black hair cut to his scalp and the heavy cut running down his cheek, it was not hard to tell he was not a man you chatted with over a cup of tea and bonded over a piece of fantasy.

"Ms.Inocencio, I would be on patrol downstairs tonight just in case you need anything. I advise you to head to bed now, Ocatvio would be a while from what I have heard." Him calling Octavio by his first name made me wonder if he was a friend of his. It isn't like Ocatvio to leave his duty of protecting me to just a few strangers he had met at work.

"If you don't mind me asking, how do you know Octavio?" It was an innocent question, but the way his eyebrow creased made me think otherwise. These men were made to catch every emotion that a human was capable of displaying, there is no way he didn't manage to catch the curiosity flickering in my undertone.

"We both joined our reserved positions in the government around the same time after leaving the army and were grouped together in some of our missions together," I nodded in understanding, knowing this was the most information and detail I was going to get out of him about Ocativo.

"Lian is stationed out in the front, I'm just going to go see if all the locks are secured. You can stay down here if you would like, but once again it's better to just have an early night." He seemed persistent about me going to bed and as much as I wanted to wait till 10 and see if Ocatvio gets home safe, I decided against it and got up from the leather couch.

"Good night," I say as he nods and watches me head for the marble staircase down the hall.

When I finally get inside my bedroom, I quickly head towards the heavy curtains that are hiding the view of the creek outside. Pulling the heavy cream curtains to the side, I see my reflection in the glass window bounce back at me.
