I sat on my designer couch with my legs crossed and with a glass scotch in my hand. "Where is your ice cream?" Joe asked while looking for ice cream in my freezer. I got up and went into my kitchen. Joe was still wearing his pyjamas. "Its right here." I chuckled as I gave Joe the ice cream. I poured myself another glass scotch. "Hmm, Joe?" I said quietly. "Why are you still working as a bartender?" I asked. Joe almost chocked on his ice cream. "What?" he said in a high and surprised voice. I sounded like a detective. "I mean why don't you just quit your job?" Why was Joe chocking on his ice cream? This was supposed to be a normal conversation. It was obvious that there was something he hasn't told me yet. "What are you hiding?" I asked in an investigators voice. Joe didn't answer. "Lets talk about this later." Was all I could say. I didn't want to talk about this later but I didn't want to talk about this now. Why wouldn't he just tell me? I was a bit annoyed but I was not in the mood to be annoyed.
We still had plans for the day but it was kinda awkward. I hate it when things are awkward, why can't they just be normal? "Why won't you just tell me?" I nearly shouted at Joe at lunch. He looked at me with big eyes. "What?" Joe muffed. His mouth was filled with food. He tried chewing the food faster and I tried really hard to keep a straight face and not laugh at Joe., even though I was kinda mad. He seriously looked hilarious. He then swallowed all of the food. "Its complicated." Joe was looking down at the floor "I don't care just tell me." I was getting annoyed again. Its not that hard to just tell you're rich boyfriend why you won't quit you're job. Joe looked at me. "You don't know that I come from a poor household. Its embarrassing. Neither of my parents cared for me or my siblings. They were almost never home. As the oldest it was my responsibillity to look and care for everyone. I cleaned our apartment, I cooked food, I made sure everyone was alright. Then my mom died and everything got worse. We couldn't keep our apartment. I had to get a job but nobody wanted to hire me. But then some man saw me out alone on the street and asked me to come inside his bar. He helped me get through life and I can't bring myself to leave the bar. It's like home." Joe looked sad but he looked kind of relieved.
