"Do you ever think I will find him Kain?"

I sat at my vanity staring blankly at myself. My dark brown hair shone in the light, I hated looking at my eyes.. so full of pain. My lips were naturally pouty which for a while, led me to believe why so many of these people, my family, felt for me. My eye lashes looked as if they wanted to reach out for someone and wrap them in their dark thickness.

"Is that all you ever think about Jaiyde?"

I felt a sense of rage.

   "How can I not!"

Kain let out a deep breath. Through the years he now knows to consider what he says.

"Look at you Jaiyde, you train so hard that I hardly see you after. you lock yourself in your room and sleep until the very next day, and you train all over again."

I gazed in his deep blue eyes full of remorse, his tousled light brown hair resting over his eyes.

   "Well?"

"Well what? I'm not denying it but you know ever since I was a young girl that's what i've set my heart to do."

I turned back toward the mirror, feeling his gaze bore into my back. Running the brush through my waist lenghth hair I began to feel my mother's warmth again.

"Tell me more about your mother."

   "What?.."

"I don't know anything about your mother or father...anything."

"Well, there's a reason for that..."

   "Please Jaiyde?"

I sat the brush down and looked at Kain once again. I could trust him I felt that, so why did I hesitate? Why did I question?

   "Please?"

"I don't know much about my father...in fact he left before I really even knew him; my mother obviously raised me since then."

"And...you lived your whole life in London then?"

   "Since I can remember, yeah."

   "Am I making you uncomfortable?"

"No Kain, we've known each other long enough, you should know..."

Kain got up and walked slowly towards the edge of the bed and sat down facing me so that we were inches apart from eachother.

   "I'm sorry."

He looked as if he was apologizing from  the very depths of his soul, just like he did that night, eleven years ago.. A strand of my hair fell in front of my face. It startled me for a second because I was so focused on Kain; every feature that lay just inches before me. I could feel his heat radiating on to my skin, my heart skipping beats. All this time i've known Kain was attractive, that much is obvious, but since living here, I have never felt this sense of pleasure, this sense of delight, that i'am feeling right at this very instant. Kain was always very cautious with me, cautious of my every move, he had kept his promise...he would always protect me.

(flashback)

   "Kain wait up!"

I stumbled behind him as he ran up the hill. The day was beautiful, the sun warming up my skin. Kain had been wanting to show me this "something special" for a while now, but the days were too cold;. at this point I was about 8 years old.

"Were almost there Jaiyde I promise."

He laughed and ran along as I caught up; eventually he stopped and didn't move. As I came up behind him I saw what he had been gazing at. The lake was the blue of his eyes; the sun reflecting dazzling ripples off of the water; wizened petals danced along, rejoicing  in the day as well.
