Alicia was beaming with happiness over her weekend. This was saying something because it had been a week after the weekend that she was beaming over.
Quentin had been amazing and open about so many things…
Alicia couldn’t believe he had such a sensitive side to him.
And goodness, how did he learn to kiss like that? Alicia was pretty sure she was ruined for any other man just from kissing him.
A small giggle escaped her and she realised she had been daydreaming while looking at her homework assignment for an hour now.
Goodness, Quentin not only ruined her for other men, he might also ruin her too much for school as well.
Forcing herself away from the weekend and concentrating on the work at hand, Alicia completed her assignment.
She was halfway, finally successfully keeping him out of her head, when her phone pinged. She quickly checked it to see if it was Quentin.
After the kiss, he had told Alicia that he wanted to go on a proper date with her, but he would have to be out of the city for some work. So they both exchanged their phone numbers and now they were constantly texting each other, at all times.
Best thing about Quentin was that unless he was in a meeting, he was always available to her to talk to. He replied within seconds of her texts, as if he too was holding his phone in hands, like she kept hers nearby.
But the text just now was not from Quentin. It was from her mobile company, telling her of this cool new plan they were launching. She put her phone back down, and tried to go back into her assignment.
Quentin had told her that he probably won't be able to contact her today, so Alicia didn’t understand her frustration over him nt texting her. It was not like she was the type to constantly need attention to feel validated, yet she found herself not happy about him not texting her.
As if, it didn’t matter that if other people were thinking about her not, but not receiving anything from Quentin made her sad. As if, his was the only attention that mattered.
Alicia sighed, realising she was again lost in thoughts of Quentin.
She got up to get herself water. Hopefully, taking some time out of her room will make her feel better.
Alicia was keeping all lights in her house closed other than her room’s. Her father was not in the city again, and she didn’t want to waste electricity by having all the lights in her house aglow.
She was done drinking water in the kitchen downstairs when there was a knock on her front door. She immediately went on alert, taking the sword for show that was hanging in her living room. She cautiously looked through the peephole.
There, standing on her front porch was Quentin Simon Walsh, in all his glory.
She quickly opened the door after that.
“Quentin!” She exclaimed, throwing herself at him.
Quentin immediately caught her, wrapping his arms around Alicia. Then he quickly took her into the house, to ensure that no one saw their display of affection.
Alicia got off Quentin, a bit embarrassed, and quietly closed the door.
“Fine way to welcome someone, with a sword?” Quentin teased Alicia, making her feel the heat rise in her cheeks.
Alicia quickly put the sword to the side, to rest against the couch and changed the topic to hospitality.
“Would you like something? Tea? Juice? Coffee?”
“I love how you ask me for tea before coffee, as if we were in Britain, and not in America.” Quentin teased her again. He loved Alicia’s blush, though he hadn’t intended to make her.
“Well, Walsh does sound very British to me.” Alicia muttered in a way that Quentin couldn’t help but laugh.
Alicia took a moment to take in the beauty of the laugh and the man to whom the laughter belonged.
When Quentin’s laugh finally got reduced to a chuckle, Alicia said, “So, I gather from that that you will prefer the national brew of America?”
“Would definitely prefer it, Alicia. But given that I came to see you directly from the airport, I think I will have to take a rain check from that and go to my house."
"Oh." Alicia said, feeling a little disappointed that they were not spending more time together.
"Would you like to go on that date tomorrow?" Quentin asked.
"Yes, please!" Alicia said, happily.
Quentin put his left hand on her jaw, caressing it a bit, before he bent down and gave Alicia a soft peck on the lips.
"Thank you." he said before turning and opening the door and leaving.
Alicia heard his steps moving away only after she was done locking her door. She then carefully pulled the sword back up, and placed it back where she had taken it from, on the wall.
She was bubbling with happiness, and all the movements she made had to be carefully controlled by her lest she start dancing and hurt herself. That didn’t mean she could stop the smile that spread across her face at her plans for the next day. Or did Quentin say night.
Replaying, she released that he had not mentioned the time at which he would be taking her out. Just the day.
A sense of panic filled her senses and Alicia ran back up the stairs to her phone.
Quentin picked on the second ring.
“Hello? Alicia, is everything okay?” Quentin asked, his voice sounding a bit worried.
“Hi! No. Yes. I mean…” get a hold of yourself Alicia, you’re babbling, “What I mean to say is that, you did not mention the time we go on the date.”
“Don’t worry about that, I’ll pick you up from wherever you’ll be at the time. I currently do not know when I will be able to get away from the work that has probably piled up in my absence from the office.”
“Oh. Then how will I be able to get ready?” Alcia asked, putting the nail of her thumb between her teeth, not chewing, just touching.
“You need to get ready for what? You always look beautiful. It’s my appearance that I am worried about.” Quentin said.
Alicia’s jaw loosened and she pulled the phone away from her head to look at it properly for a second before putting it back against her ear.
“Have you lost your mind?” she asked Quentin in disbelief.
That made Quentin laugh hard, making Alicia’s heart skip a few beats. What he said next made it stop altogether.
“Not my mind, but I think I might be losing my heart.” Quentin said quietly, as if confessing.
Before Alicia could come out of her daze, he quickly cut the phone with, “I am receiving a call. I will see you tomorrow. Bye.”
Click.
Alicia kept the phone to her ears for a few seconds, then she brought it down and stared at it in disbelief for a few more seconds.
She laid down on her bed, and then did some more staring, this time at the ceiling.
None of it helped her process what just went down in that phone call. Too bad her best friend Mina was on a date with some guy named Ken she met when she was doing her part time job yesterday.
Adamina Lacy Blanchard, or Mina to her friends (because her real name was such a mouthful), was so experienced in relationships, she had stopped being reserved a long time ago. She would have never frozen on call if a guy told her he might be falling in love with her. She would have said something back to him, and that something would have been an absolute truth about what she thought of him.
It was a sad day when she woke up from her coma to realise that her entire class was done with their graduation.
Which meant Mina went away on her scholarship to the university of her dreams, working part time in the retail sector to make ends meet where scholarship was loose. Mina was in love with everything about fashion and clothing, just as much as Alicia was in love with animals, so working in retail was more like being in heaven than a job to Mina.
And while Alicia was pleased as punch and proud of her, it was still sad to think that her best friend was no more just a few streets away.
So here Alicia was, all alone, with no idea as to what to do with herself and her questions.
