your forehead pulsed ruthlessly. you rubbed the aching pain hoping it would disappear soon. you were on your way across the village for a delivery. suzuki stayed at home with a fever so she was alone.
"y/n! are you alright?"
"saburo? you're out of the hospital already?"
"yeah, i was discharged this morning. but are you okay?" he combed through his dark locks with his hand.
"i'm fine, just a headache," you answered.
"deliveries?" he asked referring to the usual basket around your elbow. "alone?" he noticed the absence of your miniature twin.
"suzuki isn't feeling well so she stayed home. it's nothing to worry about."
fragments of stone from the building itachi sat on turned to powder underneath his hand. while saburo was being treated, he got to observe you peacefully interact with other villagers. they were still unworthy of you in his eyes but he had a higher tolerance for those not actively trying to steal you. every day, itachi had to put up with watching saburo's attempts at courting you. no matter how hard the boy tried, itachi would never allow it even if it meant killing him.
he would do it at that moment if he could. really, he could, but it was wrong. he wasn't supposed to have you he was supposed to keep selfish people away from you. those horrible people would ruin you. itachi would preserve every detail about you as he should.
"you really didn't have to come saburo. i used to go out alone since suzuki was little," you reminded saburo.
"it's not a big deal. i don't have any plans, so you won't have to be so lonely today." he laughed and placed his hand on your shoulder.
you looked happy around saburo. that wasn't supposed to happen. you weren't supposed to enjoy his company-not that he was upset with you. it was only saburo's fault.
he muttered to himself, "i'll have to remove him from y/n's life, somehow."
saburo plucked the basket from your arm while you were distracted. he swung it on his index finger.
"saburo you-"
"saburo!"
you both snapped your attention to the girl rushing towards them. she stopped in front of him.
"hi yuri-"
"saburo, i'm sorry i couldn't visit you at the hospital. i wasn't feeling well, so i brought you this gift," yuri shoved the box into his hands. she rolled her eyes. "hi y/n."
itachi immediately knew she was a hateful person. she wanted nothing more than to hurt you. him and saburo did share a common goal, keeping the two apart. unfortunately they would never work together.
yuri proved to him that she was going to be an issue. as your protector, he wouldn't allow anyone to harm you.
