"We should split up," is all Daryl grumbles as we creep up the road warily, unsure of whether or not this area was safe. "Merle and me'll go huntin'. Ya can go checkin' the buildings with ya sister." At first I was excited that Daryl was actually speaking to me, then I realised that he was actually speaking to Robin. I growled a little and led Robin to the first building on our right; a pharmacy.
"What's happening with you an' Daryl?" Robin asks me once we've confirmed that the pharmacy was walker-free.
I blushed feverishly and covered it by checking out the almost-intact pain-killer supply. "I don't know what ya talking about."
My clever, little sister snorted. "Please," she grins, "I can read you better than anybody, and there is definitely somethin' going on between you two." She hops over the counter and gets a whole bunch of paper bags to loot the store with.
Then, because I hadn't had anybody to talk to for a long time, I spilled my guts to her. Me and Daryl's friendship and understanding of each other, losing Carol and the jealousy I thought I had for her, finding Carol again and the kiss... and finally my apology and his shut-down.
Robin just stands behind the counter with her hands splayed out on the glass-top, looking at me in concern. "Well, did ya really regret it?"
"Yes,"
"Did ya mean yer apology?"
"Yes,"
"Then he'll come around," she smiled sympathetically at me and I smiled back, feeling like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
"Yer a great lil' sister ya know." I turned back to the shelves and grabbed everything of possible use; pain-killers, antibiotics, bandaids, bandages etcetera. Once I'd made a round of the store, I made my way back to Robin, who had finished cleaning up the prescription-only drugs and who was now checking out the things I hadn't picked up or missed. She snorted and chucked a few boxes carelessly to the ground. I bent down and picked them up; pregnancy tests.
"What's wrong, Rora?" she grinned at me teasingly. "Having a pregnancy scare?"
"Nah, we should probably take these though, Glenn and Maggie have been getting pretty serious lately, and well..." I grinned evilly over at my sister, "...there is you and Carl." Her face turned red and she made a beeline for the door, dropping a few bottles of pills as she ran for her life. I giggled and picked them up as we made our way to the next building.
It was a seedy-looking hotel; the door was broken so I knew that Robin had already gotten in. I made my way in and paused at the lobby which only contained a table and two chairs and a small, writing desk with a chair behind it which was covered with duct tape -obviously broken.
"Robin," I called out, I held my gun, ready for anything that might jump out at me. "Where are you?" I heard some scuffling down the hallway to my right and I ran through and paused. I heard a squeaking and a whimpering and immediately ran to the room that it came from. I kicked down the door and swung my gun around frantically, not sure of what to expect.
There was a man who held a knife at Robin's throat, his hand smothered her mouth; she lay on the ground, staring at me, eyes wide in panic. "Ya said ya were alone!" he snarled at my sister and she screamed into his palm when he dug his knife into her skin, drawing a drip of blood. Suddenly, there was a thunking noise and he fell to the ground, unconscious. Instead of him, stood a scared-looking, younger man and he held up a baseball bat. He stared at my sister and me with wide, green eyes and dropped the bloody bat to the ground.
