"Look at her, she's so skinny!", "You have such a big nose!", "You're a freak!". All my classmates were doing it again. Everyday I came to school hoping it will change, but it never did. Taking deep breath as I tried to calm myself, one phrase hit me hard. "I was friends with you out of pity!" These word full of venom were from my best friend since kindergarden. I couldn't look in her eyes right now. She was supposed to be the one who would stand up for me. I got up and run out of the class. My eyes were so teary that I almost didn't see where I was going. I opened the bathroom door and rushed to the mirror. I should have known that she will betray me. Of course she wasn't going to stand up for the class freak. They were right, I'm nobody. I am skinny, ugly, I am a dissapointment.
All my life I wanted to be like them, to be accepted. At two years old I started doing weird things, that even my mum was scared of me! One time, I made darkness around me for a minute! I looked at my reflection in the mirror and decided to change things. I can't let them get in my head, I need to show them who I am. They shouldn't mess with me again!
Wiping my tears, I saw, for a second, something strange. Looking closely at my reflection, my hair changed color from blond to a dark brown. I rubbed my eyes, very sure I had gone crazy. But when I looked again, myself with dark hair smiled at me. A warm breeze urged me to tough the glass. I looked around, but there was no one there. It can't hurt to do it, right? My fingers gently brushed the mirror, and the next thing I know, something dragged me.
I was lying on grass, breathless, my body aching, the sun shining bright in my eyes. Trying to get up, I falled back down, a wave of exhaustion taking over me. Where I am? What happened? Many questions were spinning in my head, when I heard a sweet voice. "Need some aid?". A hand helped me up, and a beautiful girl smiled at me. Her long white hair was resting on her shoulders, her big blue eyes fixed on me."You missed the portal by almost 400 meters!" I didn't understant anything. What portal? "Where I am?" I asked, looking around. I saw an old big mansion and many teenagers walking around. "At Tosora, your new school..." responded the girl.
This was the most confusing moment I've ever had. But since I disappeared through a mirror from a high school bathroom, I should probably keep it low until I find a way back. "Oh, yes, sorry, I think I hit my head a bit". "No worries! My name's Ira, and I'm attuned to air!". God, this is too much. Attuned to air? What's that supposed to mean? "I'm Shyla..."
Suddently, a loud voice came from the mansion entrance. "All the new students here! We're repartizing the dormitories!". Ira grabbed my hand and dragged me to the queue of students that walked there.
I thought let's shoot my shot until I find out on my own."Ira, just a question... What happens to people that are not students...?". "Oh, they're petrified by the guards, but that hasn't happened in years! Why?". " Just curious!" I muttered out, already terrified. What I'm supposed to do?
In just a second, it was our turn to check in. "Name?" asked the old lady. "Ira Le Black." "Room 64. And you?". I am so dead! "Shyla Talbot..." The lady checked the list, then looked at me. "I'm not sure you're on the list sweetie..." She started looking for my name again, and when I already accepted my fate, she smiled. "Sorry, I must have skipped it by mistake. Room 64, like your friend here!". Tira squealed happily and dragged me away again. "Here at Tosora, the best thing is the rooms, trust me!" Entering the mansion, someone bumped into me. "Sorry!" I apologised to the boy in front of me. "Watch where you're going! You shouldn't bump into a Norwood!". Wow, rude enough. But I probably shouldn't start a fight right now."Fuck off Ezin!" defended me Tira. "Whatever!" said he storming off.
Tira started to walk irritated to our dorm, with me trying to keep up. "Tira, how do we actually open the door? We don't have a key!" Without replying, she put her hand up the door, which opened immediately. "Magical recognition" muttered her. Throwing herself on the bed, she started shouting. "WHO DOES HE THINK HE IS?! SUCH AN ASSHOLE!" "Deep breaths! First, who was that?". "Ezin Norwood, from one of the best magical family in history. He's the most arrogant person, and also my ex" Looking at each other for a moment, we both burst out laughing, even if we had no reason to laugh.
It definitely wasn't the best moment for me. I didn't know where I was, how I got here and how can I go back, but I knew I liked this girl. How could I know that only a few months later, she and my new friend group will help me defeat one of my biggest enemy?
