I can't believe this. I seriously can't believe this! How did I end up in a situation like this of all things?! I paled, frantically trying to piece together what happened here. That's right...ever since I inherited that locket...
¤Flashback¤
Right after Mom's funeral, the reading of her will came. My stepfather and my older brother was there too. They weren't my real family, only Mom was. My grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins were there too. It's funny, because they never cared about Mom or I until she became a famous filmmaker and made a lot of money. The entire family was outraged when....
" 'All of my belongings and finacial assests are to go to my only daughter, Jade.' " Mom's lawyer read.
"What?! That whore!" My stepfather screamed. "Leaving everything to that worthless daughter of hers!"
"Uh, hello? Worthless daughter right here." I said sarcastically, pointing at myself. I turned to the lawyer. "Is that it? Are we done here?"
"Not yet. There is one part of the will that must be read." The lawyer said. My grandfather, my mother's father, scoffed. "Probably some sort of condition that good-for-nothing girl won't be able to do."
"Enough." The lawyer said sternly before clearing his throat and reading the last part of Mom's will. " 'To the rest of my family; you all were ungrateful, greedy, cheap little brats. And to ensure my daughter's safety, I will grant her last wish. Jade, go to Japan. Live there, thrive there. Find love there when you couldn't here. I saw you struggling to maintain the relationships you had with your friends, our unloving family, any boyfriend you've ever had. Take this money and build a life for yourself where your father was born. Be happy. Love, Mom.' " The laywer finished. The room was loud with anger and animosity towards me.
¤Two hours later¤
I went to Mom's house with my friend, Keith. "So you're really moving to Japan?" He asked, helping me pack.
"Yeah. I can't not do it. It was my mother's last wish, after all." I replied, reaching for a box. When I picked it up, something fell out of the side. "Huh? What's this?" I picked up the object; it was a silver locket.
"Wow, what a cool locket." Keith commented.
"Yeah...I wonder what's inside it." I murmured, trying to open it. It won't budge. I frowned.
"Guess today's not the day for it to be open." Keith chuckled. I laughed. "Yeah, whatever. Maybe an appraiser from Japan might know how to open it."
"Why would they know?" Keith asked. I flipped it to the back and showed Keith the Made in Japan sign on the back. "Oh...hehe." Keith laughed nervously.
I've never seen this locket before...I wonder who's it is. I thought, looking at the locket now placed around my neck.
¤After the Move to Japan¤
I arrived in Japan, greeted by my recent penpal, Haruka Kou. "Kyaaah! I can't believe you're here!" She squealed, hugging me while jumping up and down. "Not that I love you hugging me while jumping and down, but no." I deadpanned, prying her off of me. Kou giggled. "Oh Jade! You're just as abrasive as your letters!"
"Hey, do you think we can stop by Akihirokou Appraisals? I have to see if they know how this locket opens." I said, gesturing to the locket around my neck.
"You think it belonged to your parents?" Kou asked.
"My mom, maybe?" I shrugged. We stopped by the appraisal shop, and I gave my locket to the appraiser. "Hm...a locket from the feudal era. How did you get this, may I ask?" The old appraiser asked.
"It was among my late mother's things." I replied.
"This one, I believe, was owned by Ryuu Kidahiro." The old appraiser said. Kou gasped. "You mean the Ryuu Kidahiro?! The late land owner of Japan Ryuu Kidahiro?!"
"Yes. It was said the locket was given to the woman he loved more than anything in the world." The appraiser said. Just at that moment, a black car pulled up outside of the shop and the appraiser paled. "Quickly! Go to the storage room! The yakuza are here!" He pleaded.
"Jade, come on!" Kou pulled me back behind the black, floor-length curtain. I heard voices. "You owe use money, old man." A snearing man's voice said.
"Calm yourself, Junichi." A cold voice said. The voice sent shivers up my spine as I strained to hear what they were saying. "What's this? A locket?" The cold voice asked. My locket! I must have forgotten it out there! I panicked. "I-It's priceless! A young girl came and brought it to be appraised, but it's worth nothing!" The appraiser lied. If it's as old as he says it is, it's probably worth millions.
The cold voice began to speak. "I'll take this as collateral. You have until Friday--" I didn't think. I just ran out of the storage room. "You can't! That's my locket!" There stood before me, a handsome man with medium-length brown hair and cold, steel eyes.
¤Flashback Ends¤
That's how I ended up here. Being stared down by a handsome man threatening to take my father's locket. "Oh? And who are you?" The man's eyes narrowed.
"My name isn't any of your buisness! Just give me back my father's locket!" I shouted. I wasn't giving it up that easily. He smirked at me. "Yes, it is actually."
"What?" I was shocked.
"This man owes me money, and I'm taking this locket as collateral. And if you're the owner, that makes you apart of the collateral." He grinned.
"Wait, what?!" I gaped. "You can't be serious! Humans aren't livestock! And I will not be used by someone as low as you!"
"You mean a Yakuza?" He askes, his eyes narrowing back to the cold expression of his.
"I mean someone who plays with innocent people's lives!" I growled.
"That isn't your decision." He said calmly. "You're my property now. Katsuro." Another handsome man with blonde hair and piercing blue eyes emerged behind him and grabbed me. "I'm really sorry about this, Miss." He whispered to me before knocking me out.
