"Who haven't I called on today?" Mrs. Allison asks.
Not me, please God, not me. I cross my little 6 year old fingers and pray.
My name is Taylor Mooney and I live in Reading, PA. I'm in 1st grade at Reading's Elementary School. My long hair is a dark brown and my eyes are a brilliant green, or so my foster mom says. Both of my parents died in a car accident when I was 3. I lived in an orphanage for about a year and a half until a foster family offered to take me in.
"How about Taylor. Who was the first president?"
"Umm..." I studer, "George Washington?"
For a six year old I have only one friend. Her name is Abigail Watson. She moved here from Germany 2 years ago, which explains her blonde hair and blue eyes.
"That's correct, Taylor!" Says Mrs. Allison while writing 'George Washington' on the board.
Yes! I finally got an answer right. I wouldn't have to get teased today at recess. As I already pointed out, I'm not popular at all. One friend, that's it. I'm not the smartest kid in my class either and I'm very, very quiet. Abigail is the only person that understands what I went through. She's also the only one who knows what I went through, other than my foster family and Mrs. Allison
Mrs. Allison is very nice, too. Sometimes I stay in for recess and help clean up. I can pretty much tell her anything, my thoughts and feelings. She is one of the best listeners I know. She lost one of her kids to cancer, so she understands the feeling of missing someone. His name was Ronan. He died when he was 4. Only 4!
Thinking of Ronan brings stinging tears to my eyes. I look up at Mrs. Allison and she meets my eyes. I mouth 'Can I stay in today?'. With a nod of her head, she mouths back a 'yes'.
A tear drips from my eye and I sniffle. Don't cry, I tell myself! Don't cry!
It was going to be a long day.
