Masons boombing voice made me jump. At that moment I knew that the new kid was going to get his face punched in. I shuffeled my way between the two men. Though they both tower over me, I pose as a reasonable spacer between the two giants.

"I said, What did you just call her?" he said with a flick of his eyebrows.

"I called her Mammie, is there a problem with that??" He spoke with amusement in his tone.

"Guys there is a nicer way this could be settled!" I said frantically before the two pummled each other.

Before I knew what was happening, Masons large hands came in contact with skin, my skin. He'd punched my left cheek.

I fell to the floor clutching my face when I heard and angerd scream comming from a semi-foriegn voice.

"YOU DONT PUT YOUR HANDS ON A WOMAN!!!"

I heard a gut wrenching crack, and a bloody body dropped to the floor beside me. Then I felt two arms try to wrap around me but I fought.

"Chica, it's me, I'm not going to hurt you. Trust me, please." He spoke with sincerity.

His arms wrapped around my body and he lifted me out of the school into the parking lot. I heard the jingle of his keys in his hand, but he never put me down to unlock the door. The door unlocked and he laid me across the back seat and put a blanket over me. I felt my jaw and lower cheek and I couldn't really talk or close the corner of my mouth so drool started to form. Since I couldn't talk I began to tap on the window. He couldn't turn around because he started driving but I saw him look the rearview mirror and I pointed at the jaw bruise and the drool ascending from it.

"Use the blanket." He said gripping the steering wheel tightly.

"Bur I fon't fant to meth up your blanfet." I said trying really hard to enunciate.

He stifles a chuckle, "It's fine just use it."

I sheepishly grabbed the corner of the woven blanket and mopped up the drool pool. I felt my face begin to swell up even more as I placed my head back in the crook of my arm.

The car came to a stop and my door flung open. I lifted my head and the sun burned my eyes. I tried to sit up but a sharp pain in my back stopped me. Jay grabbed my forearms and slid me out the car til I was on my feet, but before I had the chance to take a step he'd picked me up bridal style. I felt really awkward because I had no where to put my hands, but I can't think straight either.

"Chica, chica can you hear me?"

"Yeth." But my head is pounding, my back hurts and I feel uncomfortable. Jay took my hands and locked them around his neck, then he opened his front door and put me down again.

"Mama, " he yelled "dondé está tú?" His Spanish is beautiful but my brain still isn't working right.

Then I felt it; the urge to slip away slowly into darkness. My eyes felt droopy, and my jaw began to ache even more. I feel his hands come up my back and clasp me to him. He's speaking, but the words are no longer clear. His hand is keeping me from toppling over, but I still feel like falling.
