Chapter One

I haul my suitcase up the stairs as I head to the apartment that I share with my best friend Spencer. It has been about 20 weeks since I was last here - I've been training at FBI academy. Now, I am a proper FBI agent. I couldn't be happier.

I turn my key in the lock and I can barely take one step inside before Spencer runs towards me and gives me a tight hug.

"Quinn!" he lets go of me. "I've missed you."

I smile at him as I shut the door behind me. "I've missed you too. I see you've been following my cleaning tips," I chuckle whilst looking round the room, spotting the piles of books and files everywhere I look.

"Yeah, uhh, sorry. I kind of let things get a bit out of hand."

"It's ok. We can always clean it up later. But first I should probably get unpacked."

"Good idea," he smiles. "I'll make some coffee."

"That would be awesome," I smile back before bringing my suitcase to my room. Like the rest of the apartment, my room was also full of books. Shelves full of them lined almost every wall with my books - the kind of one that Spencer wouldn't like. They were fantasy and sci-fi and romance instead of the classics and educational ones that he preferred (not that I don't like those too).

I open my closet and start to unpack my things and I put my gun in the safe that I installed in there before I started at the academy. After putting everything away, I head to the lounge and sit down on the couch. Spencer walks in, holding two cups of coffee, and he passes one to me.

"Thanks," I say, taking a sip. Spencer knows how to make the perfect cup of coffee.

"How was the Academy?" Spencer asks as he sits at the other end of the couch.

"It wasn't that hard. The only thing I struggled with was the Physical Fitness Test but I managed to pass it - just."

"I've always hated the PFT."

"I see why," I laugh, and Spencer joins in.

"I knew you weren't going to struggle in the Academy - especially with a brain like yours," I smile at that. "Anyways, do you know where you are going to be assigned?"

I shake my head. "Not yet. But I should in the next couple days. I really hope I get assigned to somewhere in Quantico. I couldn't imagine having to move somewhere else."

"I'm sure you will be fine. For all we know, you could join the BAU."

That suggestion make me chuckle. "To be honest, that would be pretty awesome. It would finally give me a chance to meet your team."

For the rest of the night, Spencer and I just talked. We talked about anything and everything. It's not until you talk so someone again that you realise just how much you had missed a person. There were also many cups of coffee involved that kept us up into the middle of the night.

I look down to my wrist and see that the time is 1 am. I should probably go to bed.

"I have some work that I need to finish up," Spencer tells me as I start to head towards my room. I tell him to try to get at least some sleep. Knowing him, he will probably pull an all-nighter anyways.

We say goodnight to each other and I enter my room, closing the door gently behind me. It is nice to be able to sleep in my own bed again - it's much more comfortable than the ones at the Academy. I get changed and ready for bed and I sit at my desk where my computer lives. Unlike Spencer, I am not a total technophobe (though I do still prefer not using them). There's a notification for my emails, so I open them. It's about where I will be assigned.

Dear Dr. Quinn Parker,

We congratulate you on graduating from FBI Academy.

Due to your incredible performance, you have proved yourself deserving of working in one of the Bureau's top departments. Therefore, you have been assigned to work at the Behavioural Analysis Unit in Quantico, Virginia. We will see you on Monday.

Yours sincerely,

The Federal Bureau of Investigation

I smile to myself. The BAU...

I can't wait for Monday.
