The next morning I find myself sitting in Mrs. Tankit’s biology class again, though, at least I got there early so I wouldn’t have to endure the accusing stares of everybody as they walked through the door. Yet there was one stare I couldn’t miss.

“Oh Scarlett gonna throw another water fountain at me again I see?” she snaps.

I don’t answer. She wants me to do something like yesterday again, except in front of everybody this time. So instead of getting myself worked up about it I make a joke out of it. “Oh yeah, cause I definitely moved a water fountain with my mind and threw it at you, cause that’s totally possible.”

Some people behind her snicker which makes her go red in the face. “You did, I saw you! Don’t act like you didn’t because you know you did!” she looks around at her friends sitting next to her. “Didn’t she guys? Tell them, tell them that she made that water  fountain explode!”

She gets uneasy glances from them as they tentatively nod their heads. “Hmm, looks like you’re the only one who can back that up Heather. Maybe you hit your head or something because you don’t look so good. Are you okay?” I say in the most sarcastic of tones.

“Don’t you act like it didn’t happen Scarlett Heywood, you’re just lying to yourself!” she screams.

“Heather sit down before I send you out,” says Mrs. Tankit.

Heather is nearly at a point of twitching she’s so mad. However, without wanting to cause a scene, she sits down sulking and doesn’t say another word to me the rest of the period.

After bio I have to endure Mr. Johnson’s calculus class which makes beyond nervous for the fact that I’ll have to sit next to Jesse. The thought of the dream I’ve been dreaming the past few times make me shudder. I’ve known him for a day and I’m dreaming about him. But it’s weird; we both seem so alive in them, like it’s perfectly normal that he’s controlling the weather. It just comes so natural to him. I walk into class, not late for once, to see Jesse in the same spot reading the same book, completely oblivious to the world. “Hi,” I say as I sit down.

He looks up at me wonder aligning his eyes. “Is it true you threw a water fountain at Heather Winslow without touching it?” he says anxiously. “Is that true? Did you do that?”

Woah, that’s the last thing I ever expected him to ask me. “U-umm. N-no, wait what?”

He’s getting impatient. “Did you or did you not move that water fountain with your mind. Please be honest Scarlett,” he says his voice softening to an undertone. “I won’t tell anybody, I just—I just need to know, okay?”

His eyes are shining with animation making them gleam brighter than normal. Should I tell him? In my head I go back and forth between the pros and cons of telling Jesse, the strange boy I just met yesterday, a secret that only my mom knows. What if he tells? What if he thinks I’m a freak? But I want him to trust me as a person. I want to get to know him better. “Yes,” I croak. “I did but you can’t tell anybody—Jesse, look at me. You cannot tell a single soul, do you understand? Nobody except my mom, and now you know. I found out about it about a year ago. Jesse. Nobody can know.”

He looks at me, an expression on his face that I can’t read and goes silent. Completely mute. “I have to go,” he says abruptly. He gathers his books and book bag and nearly sprints out the door.

“Jesse, wait!” I yell as I get my bag and run after him. Luckily class hasn’t started and Mr. Johnson isn’t there yet so I can get out unnoticed. “Jesse, what are you doing?” He’s running toward the school exit.
