Harlow's POV:
"Stay safe, alright?"
I rolled my eyes at how dramatic my parents can be. We're currently standing inside the airport waiting for my flight to be called. Since we'll be having a week of school break, I took this opportunity to travel to the place I am so curious about upon taking my course in college.
I'm in the third year of my parapsychology course. Our professor has given us an assignment, which is the reason why I am taking a visit to Lake Gast. That place is a hot topic in my department, no one has the guts to visit there so here I am, taking a fun risk. Awesome.
"I'll be only there for a week, dad." I smiled and hugged my parents.
"This is the pre-boarding announcement for flight 89B to Weswor. We are now inviting those passengers..."
"That's my cue." I excused.
We said our last goodbyes to each other. I excitedly walked towards the gate and entered the airplane. Strangely, there are only a couple of passengers. Well, this isn't new since the town that I'll be visiting is unpopular.
The plane started to take off. I opened the window shades and happily watched as we fled away from the taxiway. I plugged in my headphones and listened to some of my tunes before dozing off to sleep.
---
"Ladies and gentlemen, A2B Airline welcomes you to Weswor. The local time is 9:42. For your safety and the safety of those around you..."
I eagerly grabbed my luggage and happily went out of the aircraft. The chilly air engulfed me first. I roamed around and the place seems bigger than I thought.
I waited for the vehicle that my parents hired for me. After a few minutes, the driver politely grabbed my bags and placed them in the trunk of the car. I told him the address of the hotel I am staying in and he kindly obliged.
I admiringly watched the change of scenery from time to time. We would sometimes pass deserted lands, fields, villages, and buildings. It actually looks like one of those typical towns you'll see. Before I knew it, the car made its stop and we were finally outside the hotel.
"Thank you," I said and paid him the total amount with a tip.
I entered the building and told the staff in charge my name for the room key. They handled it for me in a fast process and I proceeded to go upstairs. Thankfully, my room number isn't that far from where I am.
As soon as I entered the room, I landed on the bed. I opened the television to watch some local news and I was met with a shocking headline.
"Someone anonymously reported that Lake Gast is being secretly attacked again by these unnatural creatures. As the witness has described, they can blend in easily with the civilians and travels in a black SUV. The plate number was unidentified. Stay tuned for more-"
I hastily changed the channel and let out a small squeal.
"They're here!" I jumped and laughed for joy.
I went to my bag and searched for my laptop. I opened it and went to a search engine. I logged in to the cloud where I saved my portfolios about Lake Gast's case. When I saw the folder, I opened it and took some photos with my phone.
I happily prepared all the things I'll be needing for my first journey. That includes my camera, lenses, stabilizer, and my tripod. I placed them all inside the extra bag I have packed. When everything is done, I went to the bathroom to freshen up a bit before I go to sleep, again.
But then I forgot to text my parents, I kinda promised that I will text them the moment the plane lands. I snickered and grabbed my phone to send them a quick message.
---
"Excuse me, ma'am?" I said for the fifth time at the librarian, who was still staring into oblivion.
I sighed and gave up. I went to the shelves to find the book for myself. I went to the category where the book I am searching for belongs. Unfortunately, it wasn't there, or more like...it was removed.
I looked at the old lady and saw that she was still out of the world. I dragged myself to the computers and searched for the topic. A lot of results popped but these books aren't stored on the shelves.
I sighed and approached the librarian again. This time I get straight to the point.
"Ma'am, do you know where I can find the book about the Kzenuser Highirs?" I asked.
The lady blinked a few times and carefully turned her head to me.
"A-are you one of them?" She scaredly asked. I noticed that she was trying to reach for something at her desk but there was nothing.
I sadly watched the old lady shiver in her seat while looking around cautiously. Have they been here? Man, I didn't even get to catch them.
"I promise that I am not one of them, ma'am. Now, where is the book stored?"
"T-they have thrown it..." She trailed off and eagerly searched for something below her desk.
"But I may have kept some important pages." She shakily passed me the compiled old-looking pages of the book. I grabbed it and thanked her multiple times.
"The Kzenuser Highir"
A medium, hybrid, humanoid creature with a lot of unnatural special abilities such as; controlling and manipulating minds, hypnotizing, teleporting, psychokinesis, generating, and shape-shift. It can be easily noticed by its inviting scent, which easily attracts its prey. It has eyes sharp as an Eagle's eye and alerts as the wolf's senses. A Kzenuser Highir's back has gold specs that run up from its lower back to the half portion of its neck.
It can easily blend with the crowd as it can change its appearance quickly. It usually comes in groups rather than attacking individually.
I took a picture of the page and gladly gave it back to the librarian who was curiously looking at me. "If you don't mind me asking, w-what are you doing here, young lady?"
"I'm here to talk with one of them." I smiled and pats the old lady's hand that was nervously resting on her desk.
