The music is blaring, bodies are swaying and all I can think about is getting back home and bundling up in my covers while watching a marathon of Friends. "Why do you insist on taking me to these ridiculous places," I shout over the music in the direction of my best friend.
"You need some fun in your life, live it!" Getting mad at her would be useless, I knew she dragged me along to these social events thinking only about me. Everyone dances around us, anyone looking from the bar would see two girls dancing closely together while everyone else danced around them. I sighed and kept on moving along with the music, before I could give up on my plan to get home I catch a glimpse of Jeff in the crowd. "Liz, I have to go, but Jeff is here as my replacement," I snatch Jeff from the sea of people and place him directly in front of Elizabeth.
I make a break for the exit before Liz could stop me. The cool night breeze hits me, being stuffed into a too small building with a bunch of sweaty strangers is not my idea of fun. Before I take another step in the direction of my car I hear a gunshot. My instincts kick in and I sprint towards the blast, any other person would have either ran towards their car or call 911. Technically I'm not human, at least I may look like one, but my abilities are otherworldly.
Just as I am within the range of the gunshot I start to inhale smoke. I run faster only to come to a sudden stop and try to process the sight in front of me. There are six single flames, each different lengths while one single man stands a couple of feet from the flames with a smirk on his face. The flames are extinguished instantly, I back away as quietly as I can and once I'm a few feet away I turn a corner and run at full speed to my car.
This life has made me soft, the more lives that I have compiled since the beginning has made me seem more human than the last. My punishment for being in between two powerful forces lead to my life consisting of twenty years living and ending only to be reborn into a different family each time. The only difference in this life was that the person that gave birth to me decided that raising me was too much effort and left me in front of a church.
Shaking away my thoughts I get to my car, the car starts and the car lurches forward. Nothing concerns me beside getting the hell away from the monster in the alley. Though it is pretty hard to think of that angelic face being a monster. His eyes glowed from the light that the flames emitted, they did not seem to be one color but blue, green, and grey. His hair seemed almost silver from the lighting, that is all I could process before I ran.
"Why are you running away? Nothing can kill you besides the time bomb inside of you," I mutter to myself. I've faced plenty of monsters in all of my lives, the only reason that I am able to reside in the human world is protect the humans from those monsters and hopefully someday redeem myself.
Before I know it I am parked in front of my house, I look out the window and can't help but to be proud of my little quaint house. Most people look for the biggest, flashiest homes to show off their wealth. In this life I'm pretty well off, but that doesn't mean that I show my wealth through worthless opulence. The house is situated in the corner, the exterior colors are beige sidings with a cherry wood door right in the middle.
I reach for the doors handle and right as I make to turn the handle its covered by a rather huge hand with bulging veins.. I look up from the hand to the neck and finally land on the hand owners face. The night masked any identifiable features, except the eyes seemed to shine like the twinkling stars in the sky."What are you?"
I blanch at his question, no ones ever asked me that. "I—," I'm cut off by his velvety voice. "It doesn't matter, you'll be my meal tonight."
