The nurse wrapped the bandage around her palm over and over. After finishing, the nurse asked, "Do you feel pain anywhere else?" Mari shook her head in a no and the nurse smiled and left her alone in the room. The room was colored blue and white, Mari found it unnerving. The light colors blinded the fact that people were dying in the building, many others receiving news that broke their hearts. She associated the colors with hope, a broken hope at that. But she was hoping. Hoping that Niki was alright. Hoping that all of this will be over and Niki and she will be on their honeymoon. Hoping, hoping, and hoping over and over again. Because that's the only thing she could do. She was powerless, she felt miserable in the fact that she could do nothing in trying to save her love. She felt more pathetic when she realized she wanted Niki alive all for herself because she knew she wouldn't be able to bear losing her. Selfish, so selfish. Her mind chanted.
The door opened, and a woman came in with glasses perched low on her nose. She continued looking over the papers stapled together and flipped them over and over again. "Well, Mari, is it?", she looked at her, eyes scanning her face. Mari nodded. "Hmm", her eyes glossed over the board again and met Mari's. "There's no major injury on your body, just a bit of sprain in your left wrist and stitches on your forehead", she nodded to herself conforming to the stats. "You are required to visit Dr. Bert at least once. Okay?", Mari had no idea who Dr. Bert was but she nodded. She just wanted to know if Niki was okay. "What about Niki? Is she okay?", Mari asked. Her eyes held more fear than hope. The doctor took a second too long to answer. "Her injuries are deeper than yours so she is still in OT." Mari's heart dipped as she nodded continuously. Tears slid down her cheeks and it once more came crashing on her. She might not be able to see Niki again.
