Just a quick A/N before we get started:
so, this was based on a Tumblr post I saw on Pinterest here ( https://www.pinterest.com/pin/555490935296717747/ ), but if someone knows where the original post is, tell me and I'll link it here :)
Also, It's been a while since I've watched this episode, so I'm kinda basing the boat off of the Staten Island Ferry since it's the only boat I've actually ridden on
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zuko was ready to throw himself overboard and let the waves pull him under. It was bad enough that Uncle had insisted they hide out in Ba Sing Se, but out of the corner of his good eye, he could have sworn he saw a small child with blue tattoos. He shook his head. Now was not the time to worry about what he might have seen. Jet had been talking for quite some time now, and he tried to listen, he really did. It was very hard when you were trying not to crush on someone who didn't even know your real name.
"-Is why I don't like traveling by boat. Hey, Lee? Man? You okay?" Jet's questioning voice brought Zuko back to the present, and he definitely wasn't staring at Jet's mouth.
"Yeah," Zuko reached up to rub the back of his neck and smiled, "Just a little seasick I guess." He technically wasn't lying, he had been feeling poorly since he stepped on the boat. Water was his natural enemy, could you blame him?
"Here, We'll go sit down, maybe that'll help you." Zuko let Jet lead the way to the rows of benches down the middle of the boat.
Zuko's luck literally couldn't get worse. He should have listened to his instincts that told him the Avatar was on the boat. To add insult to the injury, however, Jet seemed to be friendly with them. The Avatar waved wildly at who Zuko was assuming was Jet, and he obviously didn't see Zuko. Zuko found himself becoming more and more anxious with each step towards the group.
"'Sup Aang, Sokka, Katara. Who's the new addition?" Jet saluted each member individually, at least Zuko didn't have to worry about trying to remember their names.
"Toph." The smallest one responded, looking slightly green and very unsteady for someone who was an earthbender.
"Nice ta meetcha kid." Jet held out a hand for an uncomfortable amount of time before Sokka leaned over and whispered in her ear, probably saying that either A) Jet was holding out his hand, or that B) their mortal enemy was standing there very awkwardly.
"Oh! I'm blind, sorry." Toph said, a bit sheepishly. Jet retracted his hand
"S'alright, sorry I didn't notice." Jet turned towards Zuko and he lit up a bit, almost like he forgot Zuko was there.
"Oh! Right! Sorry bud, everyone, this is my friend Lee. He's coming over with his Uncle to start a tea shop." Everyone's eyes were immediately on Zuko, except Toph's. The other 3s eyes blew wide for a second, but regained their composure fairly quickly. Zuko was surprised at how well they were reacting, considering he was a few bad decisions away from a panic attack.
"Hello," Zuko tried to act like he had never seen these people in his life and he had definitely never fought them before, "Lee here. (see what I did)(I did, I hate it) Nice to meet you all." Toph's eyes flickered with her version of recognition, but decided not to push the matter.
"Hi Lee," Katara started, "I'm Katara, and this is Aang. The Avatar."
"It's a pleasure to meet you Avatar." Zuko held out his hand for Katara or Aang to shake, trying to play nice in front of Jet.
