Betty and Jughead are 12 it is the 9th of July.
𒊹︎𒊹︎𒊹︎𒊹︎𒊹︎𒊹︎𒊹︎𒊹︎𒊹︎𒊹︎𒊹︎𒊹︎𒊹︎𒊹︎𒊹︎It was a blazing summers day in July, the sun shone through the crack of Betty's curtain as the sun gently beat down on her face. She tilts her head to look out the small window in her bedroom and see's some greening trees with a squirrel at the bottom. This excites her and she immediately decides today is a day to go out in the sun, so she sits up as fast as she could until she felt a tug on her wrist. This tug on the wrist makes memories of yesterday's harsh beating from her father resurface. What had she done exactly? She'd dropped one of her fathers beer mugs and for this she had been bound and gagged to her bed with handcuffs and an old sock while her father hit her mercilessly with his leather belt. And now Betty was still tied though she was no longer gagged, she must have spotted it out in her sleep who knows. She didn't care she was just happy it was over.
Over time Hal had many changes in his health, it would deteriorate and the next day he would be right as rain. She thinks it was the drugs or sex, which she knew the meaning of now, and was well aware of the noises she heard at night. She was familiar with them because Archie and Kevin would make these particular noises when Jughead was on the phone to Alice. Kevin was one of Betty's newer friends, he has combed back brown hair and always dresses very dapper and ,although Betty would never think of it , a bit...gay. A lot of kids would make fun of the freckled-face teen for it but he insisted he wasn't so Betty respected that.
Anyways Betty also knew her dad had been taking drugs due to the smell of the house and his bloodshot eyes. F.P would come in and do the talk on the effects of drugs, Betty felt ashamed that she had and was being forced to take these horrible substances. A lot of kids made fun of Betty for looking like a 'druggie', she wore checkered shirts and joggers most of the time as she couldn't afford anything else. Luckily for Betty the drugs didn't have any lasting effects like her voice becoming croaky and high to bloodshot eyes, she just looked like a sad kid.
Was Betty a sad kid? No. She had a sad kid but she wasn't a sad kid. Her life was definitely difficult, doing a paper round every other morning, working at pops as a waitress but earning minimum wage. Pops had let her work there as he knew of her financial situation but not the abuse no one knew about the abuse. Little did she know her life was going to get much more difficult.
On this particular morning her dad had come in and unbound her eventually but not before giving her a smack around the back of the head. It hurt especially with his rings. She was very happy to be free as sometimes her dad would leave her there for a whole day, he had once forgotten about her and left her for two days without food or water. For now she was out so she decided to take advantage of this time.
Betty set about on her way to the woods , where she had decided to go with her dog Maggie, she was a stray who would always follow her everywhere. Not her dog. Not her dog, really, but still her dog. Betty places her pink floral shirt with denim overalls on although the overalls had a large tear at the knee and many brown stains this was still her favourite outfit. Betty's new boots she got from Alice on her birthday ,which was June 12th, were the perfect match for her outfit. Her boots went up to the top of her ankle and had a pink leather look with a woollen linen. She loved them.
Betty gasps when she steps out of the door to find a child in a basket on her doorstep. When I say 'child' I mean baby a literal baby. She didn't know what to do, she could pick it up and take it inside or she could tell her father, maybe she should tell her dad, he wouldn't hurt a baby would he?
